UFC returns with other sports now set to follow

The coronavirus pandemic has meant that virtually all sport has been a memory, with the world changing to a different place in a matter of weeks. Improvements are now being made and it appears we are now moving to some normality, with a number of sports looking to return.

The UFC has been at the front of this and have always stated they would be the first to return and pave the way for others who can they follow suit. This has been the case and they have already had a number of different shows, which have each been a great success. The key one being UFC 249, which was the first to return and a stacked card for fight fans.

The event took place in Florida, in Jacksonville, with the main event seeing Tony Ferguson take on Justin Gaethje. The entire event was behind closed doors with no fans in attendance but the numbers appear to show it has been a success, with a very good buy rate. Justin Gaethje pulled off the upset in the main event, despite a vast amount of support on the best betting sites for Ferguson, who entered the fight on a lengthy winning run, that dated back to 2012. This victory meant that Gaethje won the interim title and set up a title shot with unbeaten champion Khabib Nurmagomedov. That fight is likely to take place in the latter stages of the year, with September the most likely date.

Other key results on the card saw Henry Cejudo defend his Bantamweight title with a victory over Dominick Cruz and Francis Ngannou knocking out the previously undefeated Jairzinho Rozenstruik in 20 seconds. The event was a success and other sports are now set to follow suit.

The first is soccer, with many different leagues looking at when and if to return. For example the French top flight was cancelled and PSG awarded the title. Whereas many others are looking to complete and the Bundesliga in Germany became the first to return over the weekend. All games for the remainder of the season will be played behind closed doors, with no mass crowds allowed. Both Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund were victorious on their comebacks, with both fighting it out in push for the title.

It was a successful return for the German top flight and many other leagues will now be looking to do the same in the coming weeks and months, with other sports all putting checks in place in order to see their returns.
