Another dominant display followed via a straight sets victory over the 26 year old American, Denis Kudla. Djokovic won seven of his 13 break points on the way to the dominant victory. This match also saw him again pick up a large number of aces as he finished with 13.
Third Round – Court One
7-5/6-7/6-1/6-4
This match saw Djokovic surprisingly drop his first set off the tournament in the second as he lost 7-5 in the tie break. However, he was still able to progress through impressively over Hubert Hurkacz. This saw Djokovic win 145 points over the match, in which he served nine aces.
Round of 16 – Court One
6-3/6-2/6-3
Djokovic returned to his dominant best as he dropped just eight games in winning via straight sets. This coming against the Frenchman Ugo Humbert. He was limited to just three aces but won 91 points over the match.
Quarter-final – Centre Court
6-4/6-0/6-2
Despite a tough opening set in which Goffin broke Djokovic early, he was able to come back and eventually win the opening set 6-4. Following this he lost just two games in the remaining match to finish with a hugely dominant victory. This performance proved he was playing at his best and was going to take all the beating for the rest of the tournament.
Semi-final – Centre Court
6-2/4-6/6-3/6-2
Djokovic dropped just his second set of the tournament against the 23rd seed, Robert Bautista Agut. His Spanish opponent had been on an impressive run to the semi-final stage. However, Djokovic was able to progress through to the final as he won in four sets.
Final – Centre Court
7-6/1-6/7-6/4-6/13-12
One of the all-time great matches on centre court as Djokovic defeated rival Roger Federer over five sets. This included three tie breaks over the match, with Djokovic winning on each occasion, which turned out to be the difference between the two players. Federer had two match points but was unable to get over the line, in a match that will go down in history.
It was a match to remember forever. Match that had everything in it. Match that transcends our sport. I am eternally grateful to be part of it. Major respect to Roger for a titan fight. It has been quite a tennis… https://t.co/X9zQ2sEaDR
