Fury v Wilder
This Saturday sees two of the sport’s biggest names put their unbeaten records on the line in one of the most anticipated fights of recent times. It sees the WBC champion Deontay Wilder face off against the returning lineal champion Tyson Fury. Combined they are 67 professional bouts unbeaten, which shows just how big this fight is in boxing. It is so close to call with both being supported using the Rushbet offer, as Wilder heads in as the general 4/7 favourite. The fight is taking place at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles in which millions will be expected to tune in to watch from around the world. Here we cover the careers of each fighter.
Tyson Fury
Now 30 years of age, Tyson Fury known as the ‘Gypsy King’ is from a family who has a long history of fighting. This was always going to be his future and he was also named after the great American champion of the past in Mike Tyson. He has a professional record of 27-0-0, with 19 by the way of knockout.
Tyson is a very enigmatic character and is always box office in the build up to his fights. At 6ft 9, he is also a giant in the ring and is a very difficult opponent for anyone due to his unorthodox style of fighting. This has enabled him to remain unbeaten. He turned professional in 2008 and fought his way to the top before earning his title shot against Wladimir Klitschko in 2015. This was a bout no one thought he could win as Klitschko had been such a dominant champion for so long.
Despite this Tyson recorded one of the most unexpected victories via a points victory. This meant he became the WBA, IBF, WBO, IBO, Ring and lineal heavyweight champion. He has gone on to lose his titles outside of the ring and has returned following struggles with his health. Fury is now looking to return to the top and this would be a fantastic come back if he were to do so.
Deontay Wilder
Wilder now 32 has been the rising force of American heavyweight boxing for some time. Born in Alabama, he is known as the ‘Bronze bomber’. He only turned to boxing at the age of 20, but quickly showed he was set to be a future star. Wilder won bronze at the 2008 Olympics as an amateur before turning professional the following year.
Wilder is another big character in the division, which is another reason why they have been able to sell this fight so well. He shot up the professional ranks before winning the WBC title in 2015. He has a professional record of 40-0-0 with 39 knockouts, which is why he is renowned as the biggest puncher in boxing. Wilder is also the 15th longest reigning world heavyweight champion of all time. This style of matchups sets up for a fascinating contest this weekend.
