Looking to the participants of the first match of the season, the Panthers lost to the Ravens by 3 points on the 11th of August, in a pre-season match. The first half of the game ended almost equally but the Ravens pulled in front throughout the second half. Damiere Byrd impressed critics with his speed and long catches, getting in a 35-yard catch. Of course, he was happy with the overall performance from himself and his team, but was unhappy with the result. Due to the performance in pre-season matches, the betting odds are on the Panthers to lose their first match, at home and away.

Fox News has reported that the Dallas Cowboys had asked to wear a symbol on their helmets this season. The stickers were to pay tribute to the police officers that were killed in an attack in July. The players had already had the stickers in place during training but the official NFL board denied the club’s request to wear them during games. There has been some disappointment throughout the team, as a result of the decision.
Malcolm Mitchell of the Patriots, had suffered an elbow injury on the 11th of August. His elbow had popped out of place and this could result in the player missing up to four weeks of game play. The NFL also reported on a number of other injuries, including a rib injury for Panthers’ Brenton Bersin. He did not return to the game after his injury. There are a number of concussions on this list, however CNBC have released an article stating that the National Football League is taking measures to reduce the overall rate of concussion in the games. They have implemented larger fines for players who do use their head offensively, and teams will possibly not be allowed to participate in draft picks, if players are put back on the field after a head injury. The number of injuries is a concern for players and fans alike and more injuries reduce the overall odds of a win. Despite an increase in in the number of injuries last season, there is hope that the new measures will ensure player safety in 2017-2017.
