Weekly Blogger Debate – Answer the Week’s Top Sports Questions

Steve O Speak

Thanks to Howard, Rob & John for joining the Blogger Debate this week!  Now give your answers to the week’s top sports questions!

1.  Who will start more games for the NY Jets at Quarterback this season…Mark Sanchez or Tim Tebow?

Will Tebow be on the field or holding a clipboard most of the season?

HOWARD TICKER:

Assuming both QB’s are healthy, Mark Sanchez will start more games for the Jets this season.

ROB YUNICH:

Mark Sanchez… the crazy fantasy owner in me thinks that Tebow might end up at another position when it’s all said and done and/or running some weird kind of Wildcat offense. You never know with a member of the Ryan family.

JOHN MANUEL:

Great question.  I’ll say Sanchez because Rex Ryan and Mike Tannenbaum took Sanchez.  I think they are arrogant enough to stick with him as long as possible if he continues to struggle.  I think the Jets are a 6-10 team and Ryan will be unemployed at the end of the year.

2. Which teams will win Final Four games and move onto the National Championship? Which team wins the National Championship?

HOWARD TICKER:

Kentucky will beat Louisville and Ohio State will beat Kansas. Kentucky will beat Ohio State in the Championship.

ROB YUNICH:

Since I’m out of pretty much all of my pools, I’m going a bit off the board. My picks: Louisville over Kentucky, Ohio State over Kansas, OSU over Louisville for the title.

JOHN MANUEL:

Kentucky and Ohio State.  Every post I say Kentucky is the best team in the past 20 or so years and still believe that.  I can’t see Louisville beating them.  Ohio State/Kansas should be a battle but Sullinger is stepping up and Kansas really is lucky to be in the Final Four.  Kentucky beats Ohio State in the final but in a good battle.  Then its exodus to the NBA for Davis, Jones, Kidd-Gilcrest, Miller, Lamb, Teague and Calipari,

3.  As we head into Opening Day, who do you see winning the 6 divisions in MLB?

Who wins each division this season?

HOWARD TICKER:

AL East: Rays AL Central: Tigers AL West: Angels AL Wild Card: Yankees and Rangers NL East: Phillies NL

ROB YUNICH:

The division winners will be Tampa Rays, Detroit Tigers, Anaheim Angels of Anaheim, Philadelphia Phillies, Milwaukee Brewers, and Los Angeles Dodgers of Los Angeles (no, I’m not crazy).

JOHN MANUEL:

AL East- Tampa- can’t pick the Yankees
AL Central- Tigers- Verlander is a monsta
AL West- Rangers- Still think they hold off the Angels
NL East- Nationals- hoping…praying…screw the Phillies
NL Central- Brewers- Unsure about the post Larussa/ Pujols Cards
NL West- Dodgers- Think they bounce back from their mess

4.  Can the Caps hang on to make the NHL Playoffs?

HOWARD TICKER:

I think the Sabres will end up taking the 8th spot

ROB YUNICH:

Yes, the Caps will make the playoffs by one point. The optimist in me says they’ll repeat the path of the Philadelphia Flyers of two seasons ago and peak during the playoffs — winning the same number of playoff series (three) as the last four seasons combined. The pessimist in me says they’ll be fodder for the New York Rangers, who are eager to exact revenge for two playoff eliminations by the then-Bruce Boudreau coached Caps.

JOHN MANUEL:

Gonna go no chance after the disaster versus Buffalo.  Hunter has no clue which goalie to play each night right now.  What kills me in the Sabres games was down 3-1 on the power play and Ovie makes that horrible mistake to give up the shorthanded goal.  Now down 4-1 with a minute left in the power play and Ovie is pulled for the rest of the power play?  He screwed up but you need a goal.  Not a good time to make an example of someone.  I see Hunters stay a short one.

5.  What will be the bigger craze in NY this year…Linning or Tebowing?

Linning or Tebowing?

HOWARD TICKER:

Linning. When the Knicks are winning in New York, nothing is bigger besides maybe the Yankees.

ROB YUNICH:

Where’s the “none of the above” option?

JOHN MANUEL:

Tired of both to be real.  Lin is more valuable to his team right now.  But both teams suck.  New York fans should at least look to jump on a Rangers player right now, at least they win. Like Lundquist or Callahan or Gaborik.
