Weekly Blogger Debate: Answer Top 5 Sports Questions
Thanks to Rob, Nolan and John for participating in our Weekly Blogger Debate this week! Now its your turn…give your answers below…
1. Which team will sign Peyton Manning? (You knew this was coming!)
ROB YUNICH – STORMING THE CREASE:
I have a feeling it’s going to be the Jets. They’ve got championship aspirations (they have been to two of the last three AFC championship games) and have the allure of keeping Manning in the AFC and having him share a stadium with his brother.
The Miami Dolphins. There are two quarterbacks the Redskins have an opportunity to sign and it will end very badly for all involved. Actually, make that three quarterbacks. Peyton Manning, Matt Flynn and Ryan Tannehill.
I am hoping its the Washington Redskins. And more and more I think it will be. I think the difference is going to be Mike Shanahan when he makes a decision. Everyone is saying the Redskins aren’t as close to being a contender as the Dolphins, Seahawks and Jets. Manning would change the whole team. Joe Philbin could be a disaster as a coach and Rex Ryan is a disaster.
2. Who will be the first “major” NFL free agent signing (outside of Manning) to sign with a different team?
ROB YUNICH – STORMING THE CREASE:
I’d have to say Matt Flynn. It’s a quarterback-driven league and he’s clearly looking for a starting job, since Aaron Rodgers has that one sewn up in Green Bay.
Mario Williams. Why? I have no idea, but it seems like he’ll be the pace setter this season.
Mario Williams because he is the biggest catch. Teams are already prepared to send mega-offers and some probably already have. If free agency starts at 4pm, I think he will done by 4:03.
3. Who will win the Big East Tournament? What about the ACC Tournament?
ROB YUNICH – STORMING THE CREASE:
Big East — Georgetown; ACC — North Carolina (yes, I know I’m picking against Syracuse and, by the time you read this, Georgetown could be eliminated).
The Big East Tournament? I have no idea. The ACC Tournament? I have no idea. As for the SEC Tournament, give me the Kentucky Wildcats to beat Vanderbilt in the final game on Sunday. Though, I really wish Florida hadn’t been hampered by injuries and a lack of height. Go Gators!
Its hard to go against Syracuse in the Big East. Their record speaks loudly. Marquette has been very good and ripe to make a run but gotta say Cuse. As for the ACC, I wanna say UNC over FSU in the final but Duke always plays well in the tourney. Maybe being in Atlanta will take away the annual North Carolina home cookin advantage they get. Have to say Carolina still after they way they ended the season.
4. What 4 teams will be the #1 seeds announced on Selection Sunday?
ROB YUNICH – STORMING THE CREASE:
Syracuse, Kentucky, North Carolina, and Kansas.
Kentucky, Syracuse, Kansas and North Carolina.
Kentucky, Syracuse, Kansas, UNC- Kentucky and Syracuse are locks. Kansas would have to slip up early to slip and Missou and Michigan State to get in. Duke would have to win the ACC to overtake UNC. Probably a good year to get a #1 because one of the #2s will probably have to take on Jimmy Patsos and Loyola.
5. If you could only pick 1 color announcer to call EVERY game this NCAA Tournament, who would it be — Dick Vitale or Bill Rafferty?
ROB YUNICH – STORMING THE CREASE:
Bill Rafferty for a few reasons. One, he’s more low-key and down to earth. (I’ve met them both in person.) Secondly, his trademark phrases (“man-to-man” and “the kiss”) are much more appealing than Vitale’s screaming and he’s far more impartial than Vitale. Plus, he doesn’t induce headaches.
Are you sure I can’t have Gus Johnson? Bad move CBS, bad move. Between those two, I’ll take Bill Rafferty every time. Dick Vitale is just like Bob Costas, Brent Musburger and Verne Lundquist. ANNOYING!!!
I wouldn’t pick Dick Vitale for anything. ESPN needs to Summerall his a$$. Bounce him and move Bilas to the lead analyst. I like Rafferty so I would be fine with him doing every game. CBS and the NCAA really screwed up not having Gus Johnson doing the tournament anymore. Huge loss. My dream team would be the Big 10s Gus Johnson and Gary Williams games.
