Redskins Weekly: Preparing for the Pats

Washington Commanders Washington Redskins Keys to the Game

1- We are off the bye and it has been semi-quiet as the Redskins hope their injured crew of Jackson, Kerrigan, Culliver etc. can make it on the field in New England.

One roster move that effected the Redskins wasn’t even made by them.  Trey Williams was taken off the Washington practice squad by of all teams, the Cowboys.  Maybe Trey Williams doesn’t turn into much in Dallas but if he does this is bad for Washington.

And it is bad because Williams could have been on the active roster but this team continues to carry three quarterbacks for some reason?  Why is Robert Griffin still around?  That roster spot for a team with injury issues would be key one would think.  But it’s not as Griffin dresses in street clothes almost every Sunday.  Just ridiculous now.  And with Chris Thompson a huge question mark Williams could have been promoted to the active roster last week.  But he wasn’t.

So are there any reasons why Griffin is still here?  Obviously cutting him and another team licking their chops to get him isn’t happening.  We know that because no one had any interest in Griffin before the trade deadline.  I think we can say the off the field BS we are used to with this team has been very minimal since the season started.  And if Griffin wasn’t here we would actually look like a real NFL organization for once.  But he is still here of course.  And why?

2- I am fine with what the Redskins have gotten with Brandon Scherff so far but how close were the Redskins to getting one of the two rookie offensive superstars?

One pick from Amari Cooper and a trade back from Todd Gurley was rumored.  Since McCloughan was high on both guys going into the draft as Cooper was higher on his board.  And many say that if the Redskins did move back a few spots Gurley could have been the pick.  Scherff has to be considered a solid pick so far even if he isn’t playing tackle which the team told us they drafted him to do.  But then again Morgan Moses has held up much better than anyone expected.  And Matt Jones had he early season moments but has slowed down.  I still think he can pick it up down the stretch.

3- Here we go with the game no one is picking the Redskins except probably Larry Michael.

I wanna be hopeful that the likely returns of DeSean and Culliver could at least keep Washington in the game.  But I unfortunately see it very similar to the 2007 game where Washington was way overmatched by Tom Brady.  Even with Culliver I cannot see the Redskins keeping the Pats offense in check.  Although I said the same thing going into the Atlanta game.  But unlike 2007, Washington will score more points.  Going New England 34-17.  Larry Michael probably has Washington 42-7.
