Redskins Weekly – How Improved will the defense be?
Note- I have nothing more to add to Robert Griffin and Kirk Cousins.
I only got one topic this week and it is simply is the defense really going to better than the past few years under Jim Haslett? All off season all we heard about is talk about how much better the Redskins can be after adding some new parts on the defensive side. We heard it because everyone in the Redskins organization (especially the players) continued to tell us how great the new players are. I am still very skeptical that this defense will be much better than the ones of the past few seasons and here is why.
We have no clue what we got in Joe Barry. He has no solid track record as a defensive coordinator and last Saturday night’s game looked like more of the same. Joe Flacco had very little issues facing the Redskins pass defense. I will say the run defense has looked solid but the pass has been more of the same. Anyone who had hopes that Dashon Goldson would finally end the run of horrific safety play have to once again be scared. Tampa may have knew he was done. David Amerson still looks lost and we have to wonder how long will he continue to see the field? I think we are going to have to put a lot on Deangelo Hall which may be unfair coming off a major injury and having many miles on body.
I know Ryan Kerrigan hasn’t been out yet which should be a help come September 13. But if this team can’t get to the quarterback it could be a long season no matter how much a guy like Chris Culliver can help the secondary. It doesn’t help when he gets tossed from games also. Breeland will be back and he was a bright spot at times last season. But I still again want to see more from him before getting excited. And he has to stay sober now also.
Once again I hope we didn’t get caught up with the preseason talk with this group. Junior Galette being out will hurt but they were talking before he signed like they could be the Seahawks. I wonder how the guys on defense are on coming up with their nickname?
