Waiver Wire Pickups for Week Twelve
Jonas Gray
Jonas gray had a massive break week. The rookie carried the ball 38 times for 199 and four touchdowns Sunday for the Patriots. Going into the waiver wire drafts Gray is only owned in less than two percent of leagues. This is going to change. More than likely he will be the most heavily targeted free agent this week. More than likely the undrafted rookie will never have another game like this during his entire career. However, if he does half as good as he did this weekend, he will still be a top ten running back in terms of fantasy points for the week.
Obviously, Jordan Matthews has emerged as Mark Sanchez’s favorite target. After scoring three touchdowns in the past two weeks, Matthew’s has shown that he is really starting to emerge. Even if Sanchez is not the greatest quarterback, he is still doing enough to make sure that fantasy owners who start Matthews are going to be rewarded.
Doug Balwin
Doug Baldwin still is not owned in enough fantasy leagues. This needs to change. The guy is a number one wide receiver on a team without any other legitimate receiving targets. In the two games prior to this last weekend, Baldwin had not done very much. However this is probably because the Seahawks were focusing on the run and eating up the clock. If you watch the tape from this last weekend’s game against the Chiefs, you will see Baldwin is going to have opportunities in the red zone. The Seahawks were within the ten yard lien a number of times. Despite the fact that Marshawn Lynch seemed to be untouchable, the Hawks were still throwing when they got this deep in the red zone.
Green Bay Packers’ Team Defense
The Packers have been a pretty good option at defense this season; however this last weekend they proved that they are worth starting. They managed to put up 30 fantasy points against Chip Kelly’s offense. When defenses put up fantasy points that is one thing; when they put up loads of fantasy points against really good offenses it shows they are the equivalent of fantasy football gold.
Greg Zuerline is always a fantastic option at kicker for fantasy owners who play in leagues that award extra points based on the distance of field goals. Now it is starting to look like he may once again have starter potential in all scoring formats. Not only can Greg “The Leg” hit the long balls, he is also getting plenty of opportunities. The Rams offense seems like they can move the ball into field goal range. Unfortunately for them, they are having a tough time actually putting the ball in the end zone. This just means Zuerlein could be in for a great run here just in time for the start of the fantasy football playoffs.
Colby Fleener
Colby Fleener is getting a number of passes thrown his way on a consistent basis. Typically he is coming away from a game with any where for four to six receptions. Last weekend, he managed to go for over 100 receiving yards. Tight end has been a very difficult position to judge this season. It seems like a lot of players are getting hot and then cooling off quickly. If you are into rotating tight ends, Fleener is the guy to have right now.
