Fanspeak Fantasy Football: Waiver Wire Pick Ups Week 13

1. Julian Edelman, WR, New England Patriots

In the freezing cold weather of Massachusetts, Edelman put up a huge fantasy game against the Denver Broncos.  Tom Brady targeted him 11 times for 110 yards and 2 touchdowns.  Edelman is slowly becoming the “Welker” of this year’s team, and his targets will grow going into the fantasy playoffs.

2. Mike Glennon, QB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Bucs are on a winning streak for the first time this year, and Glennon looks like a NFL quarterback.  His fantasy consistency is what separates him from the rest of the available quarterbacks right now.  He has scored at least 15 fantasy points in six of his last seven games.  He is only owned in about 5% of fantasy leagues right now, so give him strong consideration if you are having quarterback problems.

3. Benny Cunningham, RB, St. Louis Rams
Zac Stacy has been a fantasy monster since taking over the starting role for the Rams, but he has been battling the injury bug.  Stacy did not return to the game against the Chicago Bears this past week, and Cunningham took advantage of that.  He ran for a 109 yards and a touchdown on just 13 carries! Cunningham will at least split some carries with Stacy in the next couple of weeks.

4. Dennis Johnson, RB, Houston Texans
With Arian Foster out for the year, and Ben Tate struggling against the Jaguars defense, Johnson was the lone highlight for the Texans.  He rushed for 74 yards, and caught 2 passes for 13 yards against the Jaguars.  I expect Johnson to be involved more in the offense this week especially if Tate struggles again.  He is definitely worth a look for running back waiver wire pick-ups this week.

5. Nate Burelson, WR, Detroit Lions
Against the Buccaneers Burelson was targeted 10 times by Matthew Stafford, and caught 7 of them for 77 yards and a touchdown.  He is the second option in the passing game for the Lions, but they throw the ball so much that he is a definite asset in PPR leagues.  If you do not have depth in your wide receiving core, give Burelson a chance.

6. Tiquan Underwood, WR, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The best “flat top hairstyle goes to the Rutgers Alum, who had a great game against the Lions this week.  He caught just 3 passes for 108 yards, but added 2 touchdowns.  Glennon and Underwood seem to be on the same page and have good chemistry, and the offense for the Bucs’ is clicking right now and this tandem could be dangerous.

7. Brandon Bolden, RB, New England Patriots

Stevan Ridley has struggled this entire year with holding onto the football, and Bolden took advantage of his opportunities this week against the Broncos.  13 carries for 58 yards and a touchdown does not seem like great statistics, but he played very well.  He is becoming the third down and goal line back for the Patriots, and the Patriots offense will find ways to make him successful.  He is worth a look in deeper leagues especially if your running backs are struggling.
