Week 10 Fantasy Football: Biggest Surprise and Disappointment

Fantasy Surprise: Tavon Austin (WR)

Tavon Austin displayed a glimpse of what the St. Louis Rams envisioned him being on the field when they drafted him as the 8^th overall pick in April, simply electric. Austin scored on three unanswered possessions, a 98-yard punt return followed by two touchdown catches. Though his touchdown catches were his only catches on limited snaps, his impact against a solid defense was immense.

The potential of being a deep-threat as well as a speedy kick and punt returner compares to Percy Harvin’s role on the Minnesota Vikings in past seasons. Austin’s ability to catch and his speed injects life into an otherwise sluggish Rams offense.

Fantasy Disappointment: Tony Romo (QB)

The New Orleans Saints defense is much improved under defensive coordinator Rob Ryan but nonetheless doesn’t exhibit a shutdown style of play. Tony Romo’s performance made the Saints defense look impenetrable. He was held to 128 passing yards and 10 completions. The Cowboys needed Romo’s arm and gutsy play to compete with the Saints prolific offense but his inability to make plays lead the Cowboys into a crushing 49-17 defeat.

Romo is the same quarterback who in a losing effort was involved in a high scoring thriller with the Denver Broncos in Week 5. In Week 10, he was confined to four passing first downs and a 41.6 completion percentage. Romo’s productive play has to be more consistent if the Cowboys want to take pressure off an ailing defense and compete against high-powered offenses the Cowboys would potentially face in the playoffs.
