Fantasy Football Start ’em Sit ’em Week 3
By Staff Writer Ryan Gerrity @RyanGerrity:
Week 3 is a week that has a lot of favorable match ups for a lot of players which fantasy owners are drooling over. It is important this week to not over think who to play or sit. Look at the defenses they are facing, look at the injuries that are surrounding them at their position because that will give you the biggest advantage against your opponent this week.
Start ‘Em:
1. Eddie Royal, WR, San Diego Chargers
After last weeks performance Eddie Royal should be a definite start no matter what. But what gives him even more of an edge is that Malcolm Floyd is injured and most likely will not play this week. Which means that Philip Rivers will be targeting Royal more than he did last week.
2. Matt Schaub, QB, Houston Texans
The Texans are taking on the Baltimore Ravens this week which is not anywhere near the defense they were last year. Schaub has the weapons on the outside with Hopkins, the rookie, and if Johnson is cleared to play Schaub should put up big numbers this week.
3. Stevie Johnson, WR, Buffalo Bills
EJ Manuel is looking like a professional quarterback the first two weeks of the season. He has continuously hooked up with Johnson in the passing game and it has been effective. The Bills take on the Jets week 3 whose defense is above average, but Manuel is preparing to score points this week.
4. Alex Smith, QB, Kansas City Chiefs
The Chiefs are the surprise of the NFL season so far this year and Alex Smith looks like a productive quarterback. The Chiefs take on the Eagles this week, where Andy Reid will reunite with his old organization, but the Eagles secondary has had some trouble. Smith has the weapons and coaches around him to put him in a position to put up big fantasy numbers this week.
Sit ‘Em:
1. David Wilson, RB, New York Giants
At this point if you are still starting David Wilson in your fantasy league you have serious depth issues at running back. The Giants take on the Panthers this week, but it does not matter who they are playing because the run game is non-existent.
2. Josh Gordon, WR, Cleveland Browns
Gordon is coming off a two game suspension for violating the substance abuse policy. Most fantasy owners are thinking this is his time to make an impact, but with out Weeden at quarterback there is not much hope.
3. Maurice Jones-Drew, RB, Jacksonville Jaguars
MJD has rushed for just 72 yards and has not scored yet so far this season. He suffered a minor injury last week, and the Seattle defense that they face this week are not going to make anything easy for MJD.
4. James Starks, RB, Green Bay Packers
Last week, Starks was the first 100 yard rusher for the Packers since 2010. Starks is not even the starter for the Packers, but Eddie Lacy is injured. Against a very good run defense in the Bengals I expect Starks to not have the same performance as last week.
5. Tom Brady, QB, New England Patriots
It might be crazy to say that if you have Tom Brady, that you should sit him. However Brady has gotten off to an unimpressive start, with 3 touchdowns and 473 yards passing through the first two weeks. Gronkowski is still unlikely to play week 3, so it is time to sit Brady even against the Buccaneers.
