Ravens Cut CB Chris Johnson

With the Baltimore Ravens’ third preseason game just a few days away, the Ravens have decided to part ways with veteran cornerback Chris Johnson.

Last season, Johnson, 33, was signed in the middle of November due to injuries to Lardarius Webb and Jimmy Smith.  He played in a total of four games for the Ravens including one start.  In these four games he recorded 7 tackles and 1 forced fumble.  His forced fumble (video) came in week 11 against the Pittsburgh Steelers.  It was Johnson’s first game with the Ravens and his forced fumble led to a field goal for the Ravens in their 13-10 win over the Steelers.

Johnson mostly played on special teams for the Ravens and for Super Bowl XLVII he was one of the Ravens’ seven inactive players.

This offseason, he was re-signed to a one-year deal but wasn’t guaranteed a roster spot.  Throughout training camp he dealt with migraine headaches and missed quite a bit of time but he did return to the practice field this weekend.

Now the Ravens have seven cornerbacks on their roster and will keep either five or six on their 53-man roster.  One of the cornerbacks, Asa Jackson, is suspended for the first eight games of the season, which will complicate matters.
