Four things I could see Scot McCloughan do on Draft weekend

Washington Commanders Washington Redskins Draft

1- Trade down.
I expect him to do this and do this early.  His past says he will do this and he flat out said he wants four more picks in this draft.  He understands the needs they have especially on defense and the quiet free agency period has left this team with some holes.  You can’t expect him to make miracles with two drafts but last year was a solid start.

2- Will take a player in the 1st round even if we seem “good” at that position.
Even though he took in the first round a need on the offensive line a year ago it has been reported that McCloughan was very interested in Amari Cooper and Todd Gurley.  Which has to make you feel confident after what they did as rookies.  He is not afraid to just take the best talent on the board.

3- Go crazy on secondary.
Two things we know and so does Jay Gruden.  The secondary is very thin and not a strength.  We also know that McCloughan built solid secondaries in both San Fran and Seattle so I expect him to look to do the same here.  I wouldn’t be surprised if you see a corner and safety in the top four rounds.  Maybe two corners and a safety if they can acquire more picks.

4- Take a quarterback.
I think they will grab a quarterback at some point in the draft.  And if they can get a couple more picks I think it is a lock.  I wouldn’t expect a early grab like Cardale Jones or Dak Prescott range but if they find a later round guy they can work with then they should do it.  I have confidence in Kirk but it won’t hurt to have a third guy around.  Maybe a Cody Kessler or Vernon Adams type to come and develop.
