Washington Redskins Mock Draft user data

Washington Commanders Washington Redskins Washington Redskins Draft

Using On the Clock data from user’s drafts we can compile a number of different data points. This can tell us what positions fans are drafting in particular rounds. Players they are targeting and where they are taking them. We can also include other data points like traded picks, and compare user data to how the system drafts when some other team is user controlled. For this first snap shot of the Redskins draft data, I’m just going to focus on user data that doesn’t include trades.

For other OTC data posts check out what the data shows about some top Offensive and Defensive Senior Bowl prospects!

First Round Selection:

Positional Breakdown: EDGE 87.45% , OT 4.78%, CB 4.04%, LB 2.01 %, WR 1.04%

Top Players: Chase Young, Jeffrey Okudah, Andrew Thomas, Isaiah Simmons, Jerry Jeudy

Notes:

No real surprises here Chase Young is going to dominate non-trade drafts, which will make the EDGE position stand out considerably. Jeffrey Okudah was the 2nd most drafted player, but OT edged out CB, given that their are more top 10-15 caliber OTs than corners in this class.

Third Round Selection:

Positional Breakdown: TE 27.08%, OT 14.88%, RB 13.76%, WR 10.49%, CB 7.93%, LB 6.92%, S 6.50%, G 5.01%, C 4.39%, EDGE 1.41%

Top Players: Cole Kmet, Brycen Hopkins, Prince Tega Wanogho, Antoine Winfield, Hunter Bryant, Albert Okwuegbunam, Jonathan Taylor, Trey Adams, D’Andre Swift, Damon Arnette

Notes:

Fans clearly are looking for a TE in this area as 4 of the top 6 drafted players are TEs. No real surprise to see OT, WR and CB among the biggest “wants” for users.

Now what I find interesting is that RB is third on the list. Partly that might be due to this encompassing data from before players announced their intentions to declare or go back to school. Clemson’s Travis Etienne was one of the higher drafted players on this list, but now he’s heading back to school. Hubbard and Harris were two other top 75 backs who either were selected by Redskins fans, or pushed one of the other backs to slide to the Skins pick. It will be interesting to see if the percentages drastically change for this spot going forward.

Fourth Round Selection:

Positional Breakdown: TE 22.72%, WR 16.25%, OT 12.54%, LB 11.33%, S 8.86%, G 8.00%, RB 6.77%, CB 6.12%, C 4.12%, EDGE 2.44%

Top Players: Harrison Bryant, K.J. Hill, Jared Pinkney, Hunter Bryant, Troy Dye, Adam Trautman, Lucas Niang, Shane Lemieux, Saahdiq Charles, Chase Claypool

Notes:

Tight ends still dominate as fans seemed determine to get one who can contribute as a rookie. Wide receiver and OT are clear need areas as well so this makes sense.

Fourth Round Selection (Comp. projection):

Positional Breakdown: WR 18.92%, LB 17.89%, OT 16.24%, TE 10.61%, CB 8.85%, G 8.49%, S 7.84%

Top Players: Jacob Phillips, K.J. Hill, Calvin Throckmorton, Lucas Niang, Hakeem Adeniji, Thaddeus Moss, Malik Harrison, Damien Lewis

Notes:

Wide receiver pops here, probably in large part to this being such a deep class. Players will slide, including names that were talked about a round or so earlier (i.e. Kelvin Harmon). Overall defense is seeing a greater percentage, as fans probably aren’t just content to add Chase Young to the defense.

Fifth Round Selection:

Positional Breakdown: LB 16.96%, WR 16.11%, OT 13.77%, G 11.88%, S 9.23%, CB 8.85%, TE 8.51%, RB 7.00%

Top Players: Hakeem Adeniji, Shaq Quarterman, Jordyn Brooks, Jonah Jackson, Antonio Gandy-Golden, Calvin Throckmorton, James Proche, Jake Hanson

Notes:

Seeing the continued trends from the 4th round picks, particularly the late 4th round one.

Seventh Round Selection:

Positional Breakdown: WR 14.75 %, CB 14.55%, LB 13.45%, OT 10.97%, S 9.54%, C 6.3%, G 6.21%, RB 6.04%, TE 5.01 %, QB 3.13%

Top Players: Antonio Gandy-Golden, Keith Ismael, Shyheim Carter, Colton McKivitz, Shea Patterson, Kindle Vildor, Zack Moss, Alex Taylor, Jalen Elliott

Notes:

Pretty standard to what we saw in the 6th round. While I typically have only been listing positions with at least 5% (unless it’s noteworthy), I had to mention QB popping up on here. Skins need a back-up for Haskins and even if they sign a veteran, they could use a cheap 3rd guy to save some money. Shea Patterson wouldn’t be my top choice, but I get why some people are looking that way.

Seventh Round Selection (via Denver):

Positional Breakdown: WR 17.69%, S 15.33%, CB 14.8%, LB 12.57%, OT 9.77%, G 5.81%, TE 5.31%, C 5.13 %, RB 5.02%

Top Players: Antonio Gandy-Golden, Antoine Brooks Jr., Keith Ismael, Colton McKivitz, Terrance Steele, Patrick Taylor Jr.

Notes:

Safety sees a big bump late as fans are maybe looking for a solid depth/special teamer given all the issues with Montae Nicholson. Also I think having a Maryland safety in Brooks on this list could also be why safety is above corner, linebacker and OT.
