Steve Shoup

Can the Chiefs finally win an AFC Championship Game?

At the end of the first quarter on Sunday, even the most fanatical Kansas City Chiefs fans would have assumed the team was in for an embarrassing afternoon at Arrowhead Stadium versus the Houston Texans. The Chiefs were down 21-0 to the Texans after 15 minutes and hopes of qualifying for a second straight AFC Championship Game were dying quickly. NFL football fans are debating which team will win the AFC Championship Game on Sunday. Fans can play slots online free and get the last bet bonuses and tips prior to the game kicking off.

Like Lazarus, the Chiefs rose from the dead and outscored the Texans 51-10 over the next three quarters as Patrick Mahomes proved once more that he is the best quarterback in the NFL. Now, the Chiefs will host the Tennesse Titans on Sunday in a winner take all AFC Championship Game to determine the conference’s Super Bowl LIV representative.

How do these teams stack up?

The Titans and Chiefs met in the NFL regular season with the former scoring a 35-32 win in Nashville. The Titans’ victory was the first of a four-game winning run that enabled them to reach the AFC Playoffs. Expectations will be high that they can win once more.

While that win shows the Titans can defeat the high-powered Kansas City Chiefs, it doesn’t prove that they will win once more. The Houston Texans had gone to Arrowhead Stadium and won against Kansas City in the regular season. Despite starting well on Sunday, the Texans were unable to keep up their momentum allowing the Chiefs to come back and gain a big win.

Kansas City on a march of destiny?

Andy Reid’s Kansas City Chiefs were one step away from making the Super Bowl last season. An overtime loss in the AFC Championship Game to the Patriots was the bad taste in the team’s mouth it needed to come back even stronger.

The Chiefs have not won the AFC Championship Game since 1969. The Franchise has gone just over half a century since it last reached the Super Bowl. The Chiefs won Super Bowl IV in 1969, which came one season before the AFL and NFL merged together.

Mahomes could still win his second straight NFL Most Valuable Player award after his heroics against the Texans. How good was Mahomes versus Houston? He threw for 321 yards and five touchdowns. He also ran for 53 yards leading the Chiefs like no other Kansas City quarterback before.

So, do the Titans have a chance to win at Arrowhead? Of course, they do. As the old cliché goes, anything can happen on any given Sunday. The Titans have knocked off the favored New England Patriots and the No. 1 seed Baltimore Ravens in consecutive weeks. The Titans didn’t just beat the Ravens, they humiliated the NFL’s best team from the regular season.

The AFC Championship Game will be an exciting game with a team of destiny hosting a giant killer. Which team will come out on top?
