5 Tips to Prepare For Long Distance Running

NFL Steve O Speak

Long distance running is a challenging exercise. Not only does it test our strength and stamina, but it also tests our will, pushing us to better ourselves, no matter what the cost. Despite its obvious obstacles, there are still benefits to long distance running. It helps with our circulatory system, as well as builds up muscles so that we’re prepared to run long distances at a time. But despite these benefits, how do we prepare for them? What are some of the best ways we can use to make sure that we’re ready? Below are a few tips you can use to help you prepare for long distance running.

Tips:

1. Stretch

Stretching before and after you run is a good way to help prevent injuries. This is because stretching helps loosens your muscles before you run, so that it helps them work efficiently and quickly to improve both your physical performance and your mental clarity.

2. Eat Healthy

Not only is stretching important, but eating healthy is also an excellent way to prepare for a long distance run. This is because many healthy foods, such as fruit and vegetables, give you plenty of energy to move throughout the day. If you eat only fatty foods, not only will you find yourself slowing down, but your mind will be sluggish, and you’ll have difficulty moving throughout the day.

3. Keep Yourself Hydrated

Much like eating healthy, drinking plenty of water can also be a benefit in improving your performance. However, make sure that you drink just the right amount, as to not introduce other consequences such as dehydration or nausea. More importantly, make sure you carry water everyday when running so that you can take a drink when you need it.

4. Wear the Right Footwear

Having the right footwear is essential when training for long distance. Properly fitted footwear can make a difference between running comfortably and painfully limping your way to the finish line. Make sure that your shoes are durable, and that they fit you and your running style. What’s more, know which type of shoes you want, and what terrain you like to run in so that you know which shoes to choose. You can find more about these shoes by going to findmyfootwear.com

5. Pace Yourself

Remember that this is a long distance run; simply sprinting at the beginning of a race isn’t going to help you. Instead, remember to control your breathing, keep your mind focused, and run in a slow pace. At first, it may be hard, but as you keep training, your body will eventually become used to endurance running. Don’t run ahead just because you feel like you can handle more.

Long distance running has a lot of health benefits. However, it also has plenty of hurdles to overcome. Even so, little things such as stretching yourself before and after you run and eating the right foods can improve your physical fitness. What’s more, it can also help you focus so that you can accomplish your goal of finishing the race. Long distance running is a rigorous activity that’s perfect for everyone who’s prepared for it.
