Fantasy Selection Tips

NFL Steve O Speak

Creating a fantasy team for your favorite sport is always something special and having a fantasy team in place before a competitive round makes it much more interesting for fans to watch and follow games. In addition to this, fantasy leagues’ organizers often include attractive prizes for the winner of each round as well as at the end of the competitive period, which makes it quite lucrative to be good at fantasy management.

However, not all fantasy teams and players (coaches) are successful and oftentimes players start with a lot of enthusiasm, but after experiencing disappointment in the first few rounds they give up and miss out on a lot of fantasy action in the remainder of the season.

In this article, we will try to help these players with a few tips regarding their fantasy team selection, much like http://www.picks.org/ tries to help punters with picks and predictions for forthcoming matches. We are not going to limit ourselves to just one sport, as we know that most of you have fantasy teams for the NFL, NBA, MLB and MLS. Instead we will focus on general tips on how to compile your fantasy team, regardless of the sport you fancy.

Start Strongly

One of the most important things when selecting and managing a fantasy team is to start the competition strongly. This will ensure that other players will take you seriously and that you will maintain high levels of motivation when managing your team for each round.

To do this you would have to put in a lot of energy in analyzing teams and players before the season starts. This doesn’t mean that you aren’t going to analyze teams and players during the course of the season; it only means that you should do most of your analytical work before the season has commenced.

This is very similar to how real-world teams and coaches conduct their business. They do the bulk of their transfer activity and team formation before the season has started and then do minor tweaks during the course of the season.

There are various different ways in which you can start strongly, but one of the best ones is to load your team with offensive players which will bring you a lot of points. In fact, this strategy of spending big on offensive players and then spending the rest of your money on defensive recruits is practiced by some of the best fantasy coaches out there. They would often include the best attacking talent in their teams before the first few rounds and only start thinking about bringing in quality defensive recruits after they have entered into the business part of the season.

Buying Settled Players

This is another strategy which is quite useful, especially in the early rounds of the competition. This is because settled players are always preferred by coaches at the start of the season. The reason for this is the fact that managers and coaches don’t want to risk starting newly purchased players and put team cohesion at risk.

They will normally wait for a couple of rounds to be played before they start bedding in new players into their systems. In the meantime they will play known quantities, such as players which have been in the dressing room for a long time and know the team well. In doing so they will rest assured that the team will stay cohesive and perform to a reasonable standard.

An added bonus of using this strategy is the fact that these settled players are usually the so called squad players. This means that they will not cost much to purchase and will be useful to have on the bench for the latter rounds. If they perform above expectations you may even flip them for some much needed profit midseason.

Don’t Spend All Your Money

Players are often tempted to spend all of their money when compiling their teams. However, this is one of the worst things that you can do when you are managing a fantasy team.

Let’s imagine that you have compiled your team and have spent all of your money, when suddenly one of your star players gets injured and is sidelined for the rest of the season. This will automatically make thousands of fantasy managers, including you, to sell that player which means that his price will drop. With no money in the bank and with the plummeting price tag of your leading player you will be left with no choice, but to settle for someone who is cheaper and not quite as good as your star player.

This scenario can often be disastrous to a fantasy coach and can derail his whole season if the substitute player fails to perform. However, if the coach kept some money on his balance to start with, all of that could have been prevented.
