Lions Vs Falcons: Ref Call in Lions’ Loss Proven to Be Correct

NFL Steve O Speak

The Detroit Lions are prone to controversy. Whether you are talking about the batted ball in Seattle or the extra play Hail Mary in the Green Bay Game when the Lions play controversy is always expected.

So no one was that surprised when the Detroit Lions lost to the Falcons in a game that has since been mired in the sort of controversy the Lions are known for. Indeed, the Updated sportsbook lines for the Lions’ next couple of challenges have hardly changed in reaction to this latest issue.

Lions’ fans were sure they had the Falcons beaten. But then a reversed touchdown and the institution of a ten-second runoff changed everything. Cornelius Washington was in no mood to talk after the game.

He seemed pretty certain that the ref had stolen victory from their grasp, and he wasted no time in grabbing his gear and storming off. That sort of emotion is expected in the NFL, especially after a loss.

The Detroit Lions lost 30-26 and it has since been revealed that the ref’s decision on Golden Tate’s touchdown was the correct one. If that wasn’t the case, then head coach Jim Caldwell would be raising hell in some fashion.

But Caldwell was clearly hanging onto some resentment during the postgame news conference. He argued that his players had the skill to deliver a successful play in the final eight seconds of the game. Previous Lions games justify that sentiment, but Caldwell accepted that the ref did not get things wrong.

Golden Tate admitted what everyone else was feeling: that it wasn’t a very pleasant way to lose a game. If it doesn’t seem like this issue is dying out despite the fact that the Lions have accepted the accuracy of the ref’s decisions, it’s because the fans are refusing to let things go.

One cannot blame them. The Lions know the rules of football. They understand what transpired and the fact that there were decisions they could have taken beforehand to avoid falling into that situation in the first place.

Tate is probably still sore over this issue. He spent quite a while thinking that he had a touchdown on his hands. And even after learning that a review was going on, he was sure the ref would come down on their side.

Then he spoke to the first officials he could find and learned about the ten-second runoff.

The Detroit Lions have been in a lot of playoff conversations these days. So the loss was especially hard for them. It definitely doesn’t help that the Lions have been involved in so many controversies over the years.

But while some of those controversies have gone against them, others have gone their way, so they cannot really complain. There is nothing else that can be said about the Falcons game.

It was a tough way to lose but even the Lions’ head coach admits that the refs and the review team were correct. So now it is a matter of getting the fans to back down. Of course, that is easier said than done. It takes a while for rational reasoning to trickle down to fans, but they eventually get it.
