2013 NFL Draft Grades: San Francisco 49ers

Draft Grades NFL Draft

San Francisco 49ers Draft Grade:

Round 1, #18 – S Eric Reid, LSU – Grade: A

-The 49ers used their extra pick to move up to grab a safety to fill their needs. Reid is a nice pick-up for them and he should look to start immediately.

Round 2, #40 – DE Tank Carradine, FSU – Grade: A

-The 49ers didn’t necessarily need another pass rusher, but it sure doesn’t hurt. Carradine is a versatile guy who should both stand-up and play with his hand in the dirt. He’s nice value at this pick and could impact as a situational guy.

Round 2, #55 – TE Vance McDonald, Rice – Grade: A+

-Great trade up and value pick here. The 49ers needed more of an inline tight end and McDonald gives them that. He’s also more of a pass catcher than Delanie Walker the guy he is replacing, so he should boost the 49ers offense in that department as well.

Round 3, #88 – DE Corey Lemonier, Auburn – Grade: A

-Another great value pass rusher for the 49ers. Again not a major need, but it gives the 49ers so many options it really just isn’t fair to opposing offensive lines.

Round 4, #128 – WR Quinton Patton, Louisiana Tech – Grade: A+

-Tremendous pick for the 49ers, Patton should have gone in the 2nd round. He’s one of the best route runners and has some of the best hands in this draft class. This is a huge steal for the 49ers.

Round 4, #131 – RB Marcus Lattimore, South Carolina – Grade: B+

-Really nice pick for San Francisco. For just about anyone else I’d say this was too high, but they can stash him on IR for a year, and could have a good player in 2014.

Round 5, #156 – DE Quinton Dial, Alabama – Grade: C+

-Adds some quality depth as a 5 technique for the 49ers.

Round 6, #180 – OLB Nick Moody – FSU – Grade: C+

-Another solid value linebacker, probably a long shot to make the roster but they could try stashing him.

Round 7, #237 – QB B.J. Daniels – South Florida- Grade: C

-Interesting pick, could be a read option type of QB and will likely get a chance to develop on the practice squad.

Round 7, #246 – OT Carter Bykowski, Iowa St. – Grade: C

-Adds some depth to the offensive line.

Round 7, #252 – CB Marcus Cooper , Rutgers – Grade: C

-Another project pick, but does help add depth in the secondary.

Overall: A+

-The San Francisco 49ers had a ridculously strong draft through the first 4 rounds. They added a ton of potential impact talent, and given their strong roster they weren’t forced really to focus on needs. Despite that they still ended up with one of the better safeties and tight ends in this draft, which were there only two real needs. The multiple pass rushers are really interesting and could give the 49ers the guys to run some extra creative defenses. The 49ers also added a future 3rd round pick due to a trade back, which again puts them in a strong position next year as well.
