Who the Jets Should Look at Rounds 1-7

New York Jets

The Jets have 7 picks in this upcoming draft but have a whole lot more needs than that. I will break down what player/position the Jets should be looking at in each round of this upcoming NFL draft. I am actually a fan of what the Jets are doing this off season and although it will be a tough year this season, I think they will be back in 2014 following a high draft pick and a much deeper draft class.

Round 1: Barkevious Mingo, DE/OLB, LSU

Mingo is a freak athlete who has been targeting by the Jets in many mock drafts. I am a little afraid of him and believe he could be the next Vernon Gholston for the Jets but I also like his potential a lot. Plus, the Jets really need an edge rusher. Between Mingo, WIlkerson, and Coples the Jets have a very solid young core on the D-Line. Another guy I like her is Utah Nose Tackle Star Lotulelei.

Round 2: Larry Warford, Guard, Kentucky

I will legitimately give up as a Jets fan if they draft a QB here. I would rather have Sanchez for this season then most the QB’s in this draft for the future. I like the QB’s in next years draft a lot more. Warford was a beast this season in the SEC and the Jets have lost both their guards in free agency. This would be a smart pick up for the Jets to sure up their O-Line. I hear the Jets like Eddie Lacy but I like what the Jets have at running back right now. If safety Matt Elam is available here, I think they should look into him as well.

Round 3: Tight End

If Zach Ertz from Stanford is there, take him. I doubt he will though. The Jets lost Keller in free agency so they need to take someone eventually in the draft. I would not mind drafting tight ends Vance McDonald (Rice), Gavin Escobar (San Diego St.) or Jordan Reed (Florida) here. If the Jets really have to draft a QB here I would not mind Matt Scott (Arizona) or Tyler Wilson (Arkansas).

Round 4: Jordan Poyner, CB, Oregon St.

Whenever I have watched this guy during the season I was impressed. Kyle WIlson has not worked out so he can take some time from him and eventually be the starter with Cromartie when the Jets finally decide to trade Revis or let him go. If Poyner is gone, I cannot believe I am saying this but I can see the Jets drafting Tyrann Mathieu because of his versatility. If the Jets want to add to their defensive line/linebackers I would love DE/OLB Cornelius Washington from Georgia here.

Round 5: Safety

The Jets lost Bell and Landry in free agency. They drafted two safeties last year in Allen and Bush so this guy they bring in will help bring some needed competition.

Round 6: Defensive Tackle

The Jets released Pouha so they will need a replacement. Kendrick Ellis is not ready to be a full time starter and Antonio Garay was only signed to a one year deal.

Round 7: Wide Reciever

I like Holmes, Kerley, and HIll (when he catches the ball). They haven’t  brought in a veteran yet so I hope they draft someone from a small school who could be a real sleeper and surprise people.
