My Thoughts on the Giants Blow Out against the Saints

New York Giants

The New York Giants have always been a football team that has surprises me. I can never correctly predict a win or a loss. I do not think anyone thought the Giants would blow out the New Orleans Saints like they did yesterday in a 52-27 game.

Eli Manning had a big game throwing 22-35, 259 yards, and 4 touch downs, but the 2 interceptions still worry me. He needs to get the turnovers down if they want to have a chance to win their 2 next big games on the road against the Atlanta Falcons and the Baltimore Ravens. The Giants (8-5) need to win at least one of those two games. It will be hard to predict which one. Both of those teams are coming off tough loses yesterday with the Falcons losing to the Carolina Panthers and the Ravens losing to the Washington Redskins (whom the Giants lost to last week as well). It is safe to say they will win their last game of the season against the Philadelphia Eagles at home.

The star of the game was running back/kick returner David Wilson who had his coming out party. I loved him as a late first round pick out of Virginia Tech. The kid is scary fast and is a perfect complement to Ahmad Bradshaw. I am glad he finally had a big game.  It will be interesting to see what happens with Andre Brown when he gets back from injury. Wilson had 13 carries for 100 yards and 2 touch downs. He also had 4 kickoff returns for 227 yards including one of those being a 97 yard touchdown.

Victor Cruz had another huge game and Hakeem Nicks has been playing a lot more consistent over his past 4 games. Tight end Martellus Bennett is quietly one of the best free agent pickups of the year. He has been huge for them. I also got to give credit to Domenik Hixon. He is having a great season after always being on the other receivers on the roster when Mario Manningham was there. Cruz, Nicks, Bennett, and Hixon all had receiving touch downs.

One of the defensive MVPs this season for the Giants has been Stevie Brown who had another 2 interceptions and now has 7 for the year. He has been huge with all the injuries in the secondary. He has got great instincts and is always finding himself in the right place at the right time.

One concern for me on the Giants (which I never thought I would say this late in the season) is they are not sacking the quarterback like their defensive line is famous for. They only had 1 sack (Osi Umenyiora), 2 tackles for loss, and only 1 QB hit.  That will not get it done against the Falcons and Ravens if they keep that up.

But on a side note, what is wrong with Drew Brees?
