If you haven’t tried with MYBookie yet, there’s no better time to get started than during the biggest college football day of the year. Below, you’ll find my preview of the Chick-fil-a Peach Bowl as the number 4 Washington Huskies take on the number 1 Alabama Crimson Tide for the chance to advance to the championship game. The preview will include why each team can win with a look at the MyBookie spread for the game.
The Huskies are one of the better stories of this college football season as no one really gave them a shot to be in the college football playoffs back in August. In the preseason AP poll Washington ranked 14th overall and well behind Ohio State, Clemson and Alabama who all ranked in the top 6. The Huskies were known as an ascending team with some intriguing young talent on both sides of the ball, but it appeared that they were a year away from being a serious contender.
Washington’s young offense rallied behind sophomore QB Jake Browning and sophomore RB Myles Gaskin to be the number 4 scoring offense in the country with a 44.5 scoring average. Browning found junior receivers John Ross and Dante Pettis for a combined 31 TDs this year and that pair will present a big threat to the Alabama defense.
The Huskies defense really came together this year and finished top 10 in the country in a number of key categories. It’s so deep with NFL quality talent that you would almost mistake it for Alabama’s defense. Washington’s secondary is led by corner Sidney Jones and safety Budda Baker, who are both among the best at their positions in the country. Along the defensive line Vita Vea and Elijah Qualls are a very good 1-2 punch that can cause havoc for opposing offensive lines.
The Huskies have played extremely well this year and they are well coached, but I think the concern is they are just too young vs an Alabama squad that just seems unstoppable. I wouldn’t completely close the door on Washington’s chances of winning, but it will definitely be an uphill climb.
While I give the edge to Alabama in this game, if you like Washington and the 14 points get in on the action and sign up at MyBookie today .
To no one’s surprise the Crimson Tide are back in the college football playoffs as they were the pre-season number 1 team and they answered the challenge with an undefeated season vs an extremely tough schedule. Not only did Alabama manage to go 13-0, but they did so without much concern as the only two games they won by 10 or fewer points was vs Ole Miss and LSU. Other than that they won their games very comfortably and embarrassed a number of top 25 teams.
On offense Alabama finished 13th with a 40 point per game average, but that is a bit more impressive when you consider the context of their schedule which featured a number of tough SEC defenses. Also the Crimson Tide went with a freshman QB in Jalen Hurts, who not only had a good year passing, but he led the team in rushing TDs as well. Given the defenses they faced and the fact that they were breaking in a new QB, that 40 point per game total looks a lot more impressive. As always the Crimson Tide have plenty of playmakers at wide receiver, running back and even TE, which allows them to beat you in a number of different ways.
The Alabama defense though is what makes this team a heavy favorite in this game as they finished 1st in the nation in scoring defense. Their roster is filled top to bottom with NFL caliber talent and they are a nightmare for opposing offenses to scheme against. They allowed only two teams to top 17 points this year and haven’t even given up that many in any of their last 7 games. This defense is capable of shutting down any offense and that is what makes them so tough to beat.
Though Alabama has a freshman QB, their overall experience and talent are 2nd to none making them the safe pick in this game.
I know it’s a big spread, but I’ll take Alabama with their experience when I bet with MyBookie this weekend.
