Week 6 NFL Power Rankings – 3 Undefeated Teams Remain
Week 5 of the NFL Season proved to be another exciting week with close games and upsets. And now just 3 teams remain undefeated, the Broncos, Chiefs and Saints.
So after 5 weeks, here is Fanspeak’s Week 6 Power Rankings:
1. Denver Broncos (Last Week #1):
The Cowboys put up a valiant effort, but when you have a shootout with Peyton Manning, he almost always wins. The Broncos are 5-0 and still look unstoppable with Manning throwing TDs (and running for TDs) like crazy.
2. New Orleans Saints (Last Week #3):
Drew Brees and the Saints are now 5-0 and have a huge lead in the NFC South.
3. Kansas City Chiefs (Last Week #6):
The Chiefs are the 2nd AFC West team to move to 5-0. What a story to be the first overall pick and start 5-0 and what a fun team to watch. The defense and special teams know how to score points.
4. Indianapolis Colts (Last Week #5):
The Colts beat a very good Seahawks team to improve to 4-1. With the Texans struggling, the AFC South is the Colts division to lose.
5. Seattle Seahawks (Last Week #2):
The Seahawks proved they are human with a loss to the Colts this week, but they are still one of the toughest teams in the NFC.
6. New England Patriots (Last Week #4):
The Patriots did not score a touchdown in their loss to the Bengals. And Brady’s consecutive TD pass streak was snapped…ouch! Its a more competitive AFC East than usual, so Brady & co. better bounce back quickly from this tough loss.
7. San Francisco 49ers (Last Week #10):
The 49ers were impressive in all phases of the game Sunday night and look to be more like the 49ers we all expected to see this season.
8. Cincinnati Bengals (Last Week #12):
After losing to the Browns, the Bengals got a big win over the AFC power house Patriots. Now they need to show consistency if they want to take the AFC North.
9. Green Bay Packers (Last Week #13):
Green Bay got a much needed home divisional win against the Lions. Unfortunately it looks like Clay Matthews could be out for a month with a broken thumb.
10. Baltimore Ravens (Last Week #15):
The Ravens got a much needed win against the Dolphins to improve to 3-2. Again, which Ravens will show up when they play the Packers this week?
11. Miami Dolphins (Last Week #8):
A tough loss to the defending champs and they’ve now loss 2 in a row after starting 0-3. The bye week comes at a good time for the Dolphins to regroup.
12. Chicago Bears (Last Week #7):
Another tough loss for the Bears Sunday to the undefeated Saints. So in fairness to them, it was against arguably the toughest team in the NFC. This Thursday they host the Giants, so they have a good chance to get back in the win column.
13. Tennessee Titans (Last Week #9):
The defense still looks great but with Ryan Fitzpatrick under center, they are in trouble. Until Locker gets back, they may need to get even more creative with playcalling and need to get the most out of Chris Johnson.
14. Detroit Lions (Last Week #14):
The Lions lost in Lambeau Sunday, so I don’t think this comes as a huge surprise to many. They desperately need Megatron back.
15. Houston Texans (Last Week #11):
Another bad loss and the Texans have lost 3 games in a row. QB Matt Schaub is throwing too many picks (and pick 6’s) and although Coach Kubiak endorsed him, you have to wonder for how long?
16. New York Jets (Last Week #21):
One week Geno Smith looks bad, the next week good. Well on Monday Night he looked really good and not like a rookie. I’m sure Smith will have a lot more ups and downs this season, but he’s giving Jets fans something to be hopeful about after a rough Mark Sanchez era.
17. Philadelphia Eagles (Last Week #20):
Big divisional win for the Eagles as they beat up the lowly Giants. In the next 4 games, the Eagles play the Bucs, Giants again and Raiders, which is obviously pretty favorable.
18. Dallas Cowboys (Last Week #19):
The Cowboys are the only team to lose and move up the power rankings. But they almost beat the Broncos, and that in itself is basically a victory.
19. Arizona Cardinals (Last Week #22):
The Cardinals also sit at 3-2. Though their wins just haven’t seemed as impressive as other 3-2 teams. Maybe its because two of the teams were the Buccaneers and Panthers. Will be interesting to see how they fare against NFC West powerhouses like the Seahawks and 49ers. Oh wait, they play the 49ers this week, so no need to wait.
20. Cleveland Browns (Last Week #25):
Big win for the Browns on Thursday night to improve to 3-2. Weeden’s teammates have said they believe in him, now it will be interesting to see if Weeden & his coaches feel the same.
21. Atlanta Falcons (Last Week #16):
The Falcons who only lost 3 games last year now sit at 1-4. Really shows that last year means nothing. Now they are losing games by a close margin…but they are still losing. At this point it seems impossible for them to overtake the Saints and it seems like it may even be a long shot for the wildcard.
22. San Diego Chargers (Last Week #17):
Most fans thought they’d go 3-2 against the Raiders, but that didn’t happen and now they sit at 2-3 and now have to face the Colts next.
23. Washington Redskins (Last Week #23):
The Redskins had a bye and stay at #23. That gave them 2 weeks to prepare for their huge divisional battle on Sunday night against the Cowboys. They may not have moved this week but depending what happens Sunday night, they could make a big leap forward or backward next week!
24. Buffalo Bills (Last Week #18):
QB EJ Manuel was injured in their loss to the Browns so it was a rough night for the Bills. Manuel will be out a few weeks and the Bills don’t have much in the way of back-up QBs, so it could get uglier.
25. Oakland Raiders (Last Week #28):
The Raiders got a late night big divisional win over the Chargers to move on up our rankings.
26. St. Louis Rams (Last Week #26):
The Rams got
a forfeit, I mean win against the lowly Jaguars. Good for confidence building but they’ll have to beat real NFL teams if they want to be relevant.
27. Minnesota Vikings (Last Week #27):
The Vikings stay at #27 on a bye week. But did make some noise as they signed the disgruntled QB Josh Freeman. He won’t start this week, but how soon until he is starting?
28. Carolina Panthers (Last Week #24):
Coming off a bye week, they came out flat and looked bad against the Cardinals. After a nice win against the Giants, they made us think maybe they could string some wins together…guess not.
29. Pittsburgh Steelers (Last Week #29):
The Steelers also stay put on a bye week. And a game they probably had marked as a win will now be difficult against the Jets in NY. Steelers fans may have already moved onto the Pirates & Pens.
30. New York Giants (Last Week #30):
And now they are 0-5…wow! They can’t protect Eli and the defense can’t stop anyone. The NFC East is bad and they look like a shoe-in to be in the cellar. Hard to wrap your head around for a team that has won 2 championships in the previous 5 seasons.
31. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (Last Week #31):
Stays put because they had a bye. But how will Glennon & co. bounce back to play the Eagles?
32. Jacksonville Jaguars (Last Week #32):
We’ll just keep this as the explanation for the Jaguars — “Historically Bad” and “Definitely #1 overall pick in 2014 NFL Draft”.
