Waiver Wire Pickups for Week Three

Fantasy Football Waiver Wire

Khiry Robinson

Big Things were expected out of Khiry Robinson this season. Now he has a chance to live up to those expectations.

Big Things were expected out of Khiry Robinson this season. Now he has a chance to live up to those expectations.

Khiry Robinson was a popular late round sleeper in drafts this offseason. However, once Mark Ingram emerged in the preseason as the Saints’ min running back, fantasy owners stopped targeting Robinson. He is only owned in about 37 percent of leagues right now. That number may sound high, but he still may be available for you. Mark Ingram broke his hand late in Sunday’s matchup against the Cleveland Browns. Ingram had already compiled 165 total yards and three touchdowns. Those yards and touchdowns will have to go somewhere. Khiry Robinson looks like the next running back in line for these touches.

 Knile Davis

You could actually feel the pain from thousands of heartbroken fantasy owners when Jamaal Charles went out of the Chiefs’ matchup with the Denver Broncos. Knile Davis took over and people sat and hoped Charles would return. After half time it became clear, the star running back was not returning. Sure enough, Davis had a big game: two goal line touchdowns, 28 touches, and over 100 yards from scrimmage. It is too soon to tell if Charles’ injury is severe enough to keep him out of next week’s matchup with the Miami Dolphins. Pick up Knile Davis early this week. The Bills’ backs torched the Phins. If Charles is unable to go, Davis could have another big day. Even if Charles does get the start, he came into the season hampered with some injuries. Davis may end up being a solid long term investment.

 Donald Brown

There is a reason the Chargers gave Donald Brown a four year contract worth ten million dollars this offseason. They needed an insurance policy for the injury prone Ryan Matthews. It looks like that investment is going to come in handy early than expected. Matthews is out with a sprained MCL. He is expected to miss between four to five weeks of the season. Brown is going to get a lot more work. Though Danny Woodhead is definitely going to be the featured running back, Brown still has value. Woodhead’s role will not change much because of this, but he will take a few more hand offs. Brown on the other hand will be taking on more of the between the tackles carries. For those in need of a spot starter at some point, or even just want some depth on the bench, Brown is a solid choice. Remember what he was able to do last season in Indianapolis.

 James Jones

Larry Donnell is emerging as one of Eli's favorite targets.

Larry Donnell is emerging as one of Eli’s favorite targets.

James Jones had a huge game and nobody is talking about it. That is probably because the Raiders were blown out by the Houston Texans. He has scored in each of the first two weeks of the season believe it or not. He may be becoming the king of garbage time touchdowns since all his scored are coming in the final minutes when the Raiders are getting smoked. Those garbage time touchdowns still count though. This week the Raiders are going to play the Patriots. The Patriots will get out in front early and stay ahead the whole game. One thing to note about the Patriots and Vikings’ game was that the Patriots actually let up a bit at the end. The Pats did not even choose to kick an easy field goal because they did not want to continue the embarrassment. Jones could easily be allowed to score another last minute touchdown this week.

 Larry Donnell

Larry Donnell is slowly emerging as the only reliable target for Eli Manning. Manning has struggle thus far into the season. He began targeting the tight end, Donnell, a great deal during the second half. Donnell has reliable hands and is not getting as much attention as the outside receivers. We all know Manning and the Giants want to throw the football a lot each week. Donnell might emerge as a solid option this season.
