Redskins Weekly: Previewing Redskins vs. Eagles

Washington Commanders Washington Redskins Keys to the Game

1-      I think the Redskins should be rooting for the hurricane to postpone this week’s Eagles game.  And then hope Desean Jackson can make it back by then.

Jay Gruden needs DeSean back.  Kirk Cousins needs DeSean back.  They need someone who can stretch the opposing defense especially when your tight end has become your deep threat.  It seems like the anything past twenty yards downfield is not in the playbook.

2-      If Chris Culliver cannot go Sunday, it could get ugly in secondary.

No D. Hall.  No Justin Rogers now.  Can we get David Amerson back?  Who lines up opposite of Breeland?  I guess Will Blackmon better be ready.  Sam Bradford has not been good since the regular season has started and Eagles fans might be hoping for that season ending injury now.  But he should be able to have a decent day if the Skins secondary is decimated.   I think Griffin may hope to get his chance against these Redskins corners and safeties on Sunday.  Let’s just pray Culliver can go.

3- Can we make it a week without a special team’s disaster?  I doubt it but we can hope.

I killed the Skins for cutting Kai Forbath for Dustin Hopkins but so far I have been very wrong.  Hopkins has been solid on kickoffs and has made some long field goals.

But the rest of the special teams is horrible still.  Jamison Crowder on punt returns has been no better than anyone of the past.  At least if he can’t do anything from the blocking he gets put Andre Droperts back there so he can take the beating for all the drops.

I think it’s time we stop putting inexperienced guys in important roles on the teams.  Starters may have to step up and play specials.  I am sorry but we have gotten to this point.  Check a game from 1988 or so I guarantee you see guys like Darrell Green covering kicks.

4- As for the game if the play this week I am not confident.

Washington played the Eagles very well both meetings last season but I just think the Eagles are better.  And as I said above the secondary scares me, and if Culliver can’t go I don’t know what to say.  Well, its 1-3 for sure heading to Atlanta.  Eagles 27-16.
