Redskins’ Weekly Thoughts: Who will be starting on Callahan’s O-line?

Redskins Offseason Redskins Personnel Washington Commanders

1- I wonder with the release of Chris Chester what the Redskins plans are for at right guard.  Being that the team really has issues at both guard spots this could be a critical situation in camp next month.

We here that Bill Callahan likes what he sees in Josh LeRibeus so far.  I ain’t falling for this.  In three seasons we have seen nothing from him to have any hope he can be more than a reserve interior lineman.  I wish for the best but we hear this every off season when they have practices that certain players are ready to make noise.  So far I think we are like 1 for 758 on this situation.  I will give it up for Keenan Robinson.

Then you have the two guys drafted a year ago who didn’t show us anything either in 2014.  Spencer Long has to be a contender to start at right guard.  If he isn’t then this team could be screwed.  Morgan Moses may have it easier coming off an injury as he looks like he will be a 4th tackle.  Giving him more time to work with Callahan.  Unless Moses comes into camp a new man then there is still a possibility that Scherff could move inside.  The Redskins are talking him up at the right tackle position but if the best line possible has him at guard if has to be option.

2- At the end of the season who will lead this club in rushing?  Odds on favorite is the guy who has done it the past three seasons in Alfred Morris.

And Morris has done nothing to think he shouldn’t be the featured back once again.  You can criticize his pass catching game and that would be fair but with the team’s quarterback situation maybe it is slightly unfair.  Some more camp buzz going around is that Matt Jones could take a huge load off of Morris in his rookie season.  But Jones showed nothing at Florida he is much of a pass catcher either.  Neither of these guys will be confused for Kelvin Bryant at this point.

From the post draft talk that the Redskins were really tempted to trade back and take Todd Gurley showed that this team feels they can be better in the backfield.  Maybe some of that is Morris being a free agent next Spring or that McCloughan just thinks you need solid depth at back in the current NFL.  Chris Thompson will once again get a chance to be that game breaking back but we have seen this before.  And don’t forget about Silas Redd.  Although Jones may take the snaps that Redd hoped to get.

3- Quick thought on the future stadium.

I hope it goes in DC but I doubt it does just because the Virginia and Maryland governors seem to be much more willing to work with Dan Snyder.  I won’t be surprised if it ends up in Virginia though at this point.  I go out to Loudoun County a lot and it won’t be a fun ride for a lot of fans.

As for the plans for the stadium.  I do hope they make it smaller and more fan friendly.  I am not going to use the whole “RFK” like saying that Snyder loves to use.  That was over 25 years ago when RFK was a real home field advantage and we have to get over that.  And it is ironic that Snyder wants to get back to those days when moves he has made are the exact opposite of those done by the “RFK” day’s guys.
