Redskins’ Thoughts During OTAs

Redskins Personnel Washington Commanders

1- Once again the Redskins took the practice field and once again Jordan Reed did not take part.

Reed in his rookie season showed a lot of promise to become a big time offensive weapon.  But lingering injuries and just downright being fragile has left the Redskins still with a hole at tight end.  I am at a point where we just can’t trust Reed to be a regular contributor much like Fred Davis but for different reason.

The team was able to bring back Niles Paul to be help fill the void as a pass catching tight end.  Paul was a bright spot early last season filling in for a then injured Reed.  Logan Paulsen is back but it seems he may be on his last run with this team leaving them also with a void at the blocking tight end position.  And for a team we hear that wants to go to a power running game that void cannot help.  I was surprised that McCloughan didn’t address tight end early in the draft but then again it was tough with the amount of holes at another spots to do so.  And still get help on the offensive line and 3-4 outside backer.  McCloughan could have his eye on a 49er he is familiar with in Vernon Davis if the Niners become a true mess.

2- One of the Joe Gibbs type core Redskins gave us some really bad and concerning news last week.  Trent Williams is out for awhile as he will try and rest and rehab his injured ankle.

This is scary because of the lack of a true backup left tackle on this roster if Williams cannot get good.  I want to go back to last season and something I really hated from the Gruden staff.  Down the stretch Williams was obviously hurting but the Skins continued to send him out there in meaningless games.  I figured Trent Williams is a warrior and wanted to be out there but it was just wrong to keep him on the field.

And now this team may suffer once they start the season with meaningful games.  I remember watching the December games and saying why does he continue to go down, come to sidelines and then hobble back into the game?  But then again these are the Redskins and they have their world renown doctor so what could go wrong?  And now to just find out Williams isn’t right months after the season ended is not good.  Are we ready for a shaky Griffin to be protected on his blind side by Tom Compton….star of Sharknado 3!
