Mike Wallace will Be a Go for Week 8

NFL Steve O Speak

Week 6 has been an exciting one however for the Minnesota Vikings, the most recent news on wide receiver Mike Wallace is good, well, better than expected. In the game against the Lions on Sunday he scored a 36 yard touchdown. On top of that he caught 4 out of 5 passes. This proved the naysayers wrong about how his injury sustained In a week 4 loss to Denver 23-20 when Wallace took a big hit to his left knee after making a reception. After playing most of the game injured and putting up decent numbers (8 receptions, 83 yards, 1 TD), he finally left the game complaining of soreness, which left coaches and fans feeling a little uneasy about the possible injury and the potential for missing time.

For the Vikings, the week 5 bye couldn’t have come at a better time and gave Wallace a much needed rest. They were sitting 2-2 and a little banged up on both sides of the ball. Regardless, the potential of injury to Wallace was a primary concern. Through the bye week, most of the information coming out of practice was inconclusive. By all reports, Wallace said he was fine, but the coaches and medical staff were remaining cautious. Thankfully he was able to bounce back against Detroit and made a great performance.

As the team cracked down and started getting serious about its preparation for the upcoming games good news started coming in on the injury front. First, it was reported that fellow wide receiver Jarius Wright was back at practice after getting injured on the first play of the Denver game.

Next up was wide receiver Charles Johnson who never made it to the Denver games because of an injury to his rib-cage. Though his prospects for playing in the the Chiefs game were also not quite as bright, however in week 7 Johnson caught 1-of-2 targets for 21 yards in the Vikings’ Week 7 win over the Lions

All of this leads back to Wallace who is generally expected to be the team’s best target for the rest of the season. When he showed up to the practice field on week 6 in full pads and was sporting a knee brace on the sore knee. By the end of practice, the brace was off and he seemed to be moving about without much discomfort.

When asked about his status for going up against man coverage, Wallace replied “Man coverage, you can tell me to run any route and I’m confident I can get open,” he also added that “Honestly, I don’t feel like anybody can take me one-on-one. Nobody. This game is really about winning one-on-one matchups. I feel confident I can win every time; at least 90 percent of the time. Man-to-man, I love it. I’ll make you tackle me when you’re man-to-man.”
