DAILY DISCUSSION: R.A. Dickey Trade Talks

December 15, 2012 in MLB

People are predicting the Mets will trade R.A. Dickey. So where do you think he'll end up? And do you think its a smart move for the Mets to move him now?

It seems like a lot, if not all Mets fans are upset over this impending deal. I actually think its a good move almost regardless of what they can get. The truth is this guy is a 40 year old pitcher who just had a great year. The Mets aren't in a position to compete really right now, so if I'm the the Mets GM why not strike when the irons hot and get something decent for a guy who likely won't be on your squad when you are set to compete in a couple of years from now?

agreed, the Mets aren't going to compete even if Dickey keeps pitching like he did this year, so they mine as well get some good young prospects.

A lot of factors when added together here makes trading him now the smartest play for the New York Mets in my opinion. Age, lack of talent on the big league roster, and I could name a few more things but they need to get all they can and move on. Sports is a business and this move is nothing personal, just business.
