2012 NFL DRAFT – Scouting Report – Alshon Jeffery

NFL Draft

2012 NFL DRAFT – SCOUTING REPORT:

WR Alshon Jeffery, South Carolina:

Can Jeffery be a successful starting receiver at the NFL level?

Measurables:
Height: 6’3”
Weight: 216

PROS:

• Tall, lanky receiver
• Excellent jump ball receiver, who times the ball really well
• Displays some advanced skills at beating press coverage
• Strong route runner, gets in and out of breaks very well
• Has good hands and is pretty reliable

CONS:

• Speed is a serious issue, as he lacks quality long speed
• He lacks good separation skills
• Might never be more than a good number 2

Analysis:
Jeffery is a tough guy to project. On one hand he’s got nice size, hands and is advanced in areas like route running and reading coverage. He also came from the highly competitive SEC conference facing off with NFL caliber DB’s on a weekly basis. On the other hand, he lacks speed through out his game. Not only is it a concern on deep routes, but even gaining separation on short routes or finding a hole in a zone could be a struggle. He might never be a number one, but he could be a top number 2 receiver, but the margin of error is higher than you’d like to see. He still should be a top 50 pick, but he does come with some risk.
