Senior Bowl Weigh-in Thoughts and Impressions: Part 2

NFL Draft

Be sure to check out Steve’s other 2012 NFL Draft Coverage with his: Latest Mock Draft, Senior Bowl Coverage, Draft Blog, and Draft Page.

Tight Ends:

-Not a strong group of TE’s this year at the Senior Bowl, but Michael Egnew from Missouri stood out. He had really nice size and a strong build, and looks like the only every down TE in this group. Egnew has long arms, that helps both in catching the football and blocking defenders. There is a pretty wide gap between him and the next TE’s.

-Brian Linthicum and Emil Igwenagu looked to be solid inline TE options, but probably won’t bring too much to the passing game. While Ladarius Green and Deangelo Peterson are lighter, but present more match-up issues.

Offensive Line:

-Tackle Mike Adams really stood out for me today. He comes in as the tallest prospect here, and carries his 320+ lbs. extremely well. He just looks lean and strong. He has a nice base, and really long arms that give him a lot of leverage. The buzz is that he is moving up draft boards, and given just his natural physical tools it is easy to see why.

– Cordy Glenn was by far the biggest man here, but really he didn’t look overweight at all. He carries the weight pretty well, and possesses long arms to keep defenders at bay.

-Kelechi Osemele was another guy who was pretty impressive, he’s got a wide strong base, and looks very strong in the upper half. He’s got long arms and carries his weight well.

-Ben Jones was somewhat disappointing for someone with a top 75 status. He came in slightly shorter than expected, and didn’t have very long arms, which I think definitely limits him to center. He didn’t carry his weight to well, and looked softer than I’d like to see.

-Michael Brewster came in smaller with shorter arms than I hoped, but looked like he has a really solid frame. He’s got a nice base, and carries his weight well.

-Zebrie Sanders and Matt McCants both have very good size. They carry their weight well, and have nice long arms. Their base isn’t as solid as I’d like, but that is pretty much the only knock on them.

-Kevin Zeitler looked impressive today. He carries his weight really well and for a guard he’s got long arms. He’s got a strong, thick base and looks to have a good anchor given his proportions.

Defensive Line:

-Melvin Ingram is an interesting case. He came in under 6’2″ and at about 280 lbs, with shorter arms, but he has some of the best buzz down in Mobile (and for good reason).

-Quinton Coples looked quite impressive at the weigh-in. He carries his weight really well, and looks to be very strong. He’s proportioned well with both lower and upper body strength.

-Courtney Upshaw is another one who just looks in incredible shape. His upper body strength looks to be his best asset.

-DT Mike Martin looks like a tank. His arms are like tree trunks, and his upper body is just incredibly powerful.

-Jack Crawford is incredibly cut and looks to be just solid muscle, he did come in a bit lighter than I expected and he might need to gain some weight to fight off NFL blockers, but the base is there.

-Billy Winn was a bit disappointing from a Height/Weight perspective. He also lacked definition and really didn’t jump off the page in any area.

-Overall i thought the defensive linemen were pretty impressive, a lot of the big guys carried their weight well (even better than the offensive linemen did), and the smaller guys just looked strong.

Linebackers:

-Sean Spence came in shorter than I was expecting but was pretty ripped.

-Zach Brown was a bit smaller than I thought he’d be, but had good definition.

– Audie Cole was the guy who really jumpped off the page for me, he was tall with good size and just looked ripped. He’s got good arm length and even looks like he could add more weight.

-Bobby Wagner isn’t very tall, but he’s extremely well built.

Defensive Backs:

-Brandon Boykin is small, but he actually appeared bigger than I thought he would.

-Other than that the Corners that helped themselves the most were Leonard Johnson, Donnie Fletcher, Casey Hayward and Jamell Fleming. All of them just looked impressive at the weigh-in. On the flip side Alfonzo Dennard really didn’t stand out for a guy who is supposed to be a first round pick.

-Among safeties George Illoka impressed the most, but Harrison Smith, Markelle Martin and Brandon Taylor all ‘looked the part’ as well. Trenton Robinson was smaller than I expected and didn’t really stand out.
