Below, you’ll find my preview of the National Championship Game as the one loss Clemson Tigers take on the undefeated Alabama Crimson Tide for the right to be crowned Champions. This is a re-match of last year’s National Championship Game, where Alabama won 45-40. The preview will include why each team can win with a look at the MyBookie spread for the game.

Clemson (+6.5):

The Tigers were in the National Championship game a year ago and are looking for redemption this season as they fell just short to Alabama. Clemson brings back an experienced offense led by 3rd year starting QB Deshaun Watson, 4th year junior WR Mike Williams, senior TE Jordan Leggett, junior RB Wayne Gallman and junior WR Artavis Scott. These are all guys who have been there before and are ready to bring home the National Championship before they head off to the NFL. Watson and Williams are both considered among the top level prospects at their various positions and Leggett, Gallman, and Scott could all be drafted in the top 100 selections next April as well. That’s a lot of top level talent that the Tigers bring to the table on offense, and it’s all pretty experienced as well. Watson has shown a nice ability to bounce back from errors and come up with big plays this season, and that is exactly what we saw in the Playoff game vs the Buckeyes. For a lot of QBs two early interceptions would have set the tone of the game, but Watson didn’t falter and played well enough to get Clemson the win. If any offense can put up points vs Alabama it will be this experienced Tigers offense.

The Tigers defense doesn’t boast the same number of experienced players, but they are hardly slouches. This is a unit that finished 12th in scoring allowed at 18.4 points per game and 8th in total yards allowed at 314. Defensive tackle Carlos Watkins is one of the most disruptive interior linemen in the country and corner Cordrea Tankersley is a very talented cover guy. Linebacker Ben Boulware is the leader of the defense and constantly is around the football. Watkins is the guy who could really give the Crimson Tide fits as he will live in opposing backfields. With as much as Alabama wants to run the football, they will need to find a way to take Watkins out of the game, which isn’t easy.

While I give the edge to Alabama in this game, I think it’s basically a coin flip and I would not be surprised if the Tigers experience helps them get the win in this game.

That makes a Clemson bet with the points very tempting, get in on the action and sign up at MyBookie today .

Alabama (-6.5):

Alabama has a chance for an undefeated season after their 24-7 win over Washington in the playoff game. What’s intriguing about this match-up is that offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin will be leaving Alabama to start his new head coaching job. He coached through the playoff game and many expected him to stay with Alabama for one more week, it was announced that he’d be leaving now and wouldn’t finish out the season. This could be a bigger blow to the Crimson Tide’s chances than many believe.

Kiffin has done an impressive job turning the Alabama offense into a really good offense these past 3 years. They don’t put up the most gaudy numbers as some other teams, but they consistently have performed under Kiffin and have been a more balanced team overall. Most impressive is the fact that Kiffin did it again this year starting a freshman at quarterback. The development of Jalen Hurts is why the Tide are in a position to repeat as Champions (and went undefeated), and Kiffin deserves a lot of credit for bringing him along. How this offense runs this week without Kiffin is definitely a concern. Clemson’s defense might not be elite, but it’s still pretty good and they can give the Tide problems in this match-up.

Defensively the Tide have the best defense in the country, but they will have their hands full against this explosive Clemson offense. Remember the Tigers put up 40 points in last year’s contest and they are a more experienced unit this year. Alabama’s defense shouldn’t be taken lightly of course, but this is a game where they could give up over 30 points, something that only happened once this year.

Though Alabama has plenty of reason to be favored in this game, I think this is not going to be an easy match-up for the Crimson Tide, and covering a 6.5 point spread could be tough.

I know it’s tough to bet against Alabama, but I’ll take Clemson and the points in this match-up when I bet with MyBookie this weekend.
