2012 NBA Mock Draft (Steve): 5/22

3:26 am in Uncategorized by Steve Shoup

Picks: 1-1516-30NBA Draft Blog

16. Houston Rockets (From NYK)- Quincy Miller- PF- Baylor

- The Rockets need to keep building up their frontcourt and Miller offers them excellent upside.

17. Dallas Mavericks- Terrence Jones- SF- Kentucky-

- Jones is a top 10-15 talent, but his inconsistent play will likely allow him to fall to the Mavericks. He’d be a great replacement for Lamar Odom, and would give Dallas some nice young talent.

18. Minnesota Timberwolves (From Utah)- Austin Rivers- Guard- Duke

- The Timberwolves have needed a shooting guard for years and with Rubio now entrenched their lack of one is even more pressing. Rivers could be an excellent spot shooter and role player. He may never be a full time starter given some of his size and athletic limitations, but he’s a nice fit here.

19. Orlando Magic: Marquise Teague- PG- Kentucky

- Jameer Nelson is a good starter, but there is little behind him and Teague offers intriguing upside and potential. The fact that he won’t be rushed in Orlando makes him a better fit here then some other teams.

20. Denver Nuggets: Terrence Ross- SG- Washington

- The Nuggets could look for a big man here, but I think a scorer like Ross makes sense. He could be a weapon off the bench and really be the difference maker for the Nuggets down the road.

21. Boston Celtics: Arnett Moultrie- PF- Mississippi State

- The Celtics should look to get younger and take someone who can play right away. Moultrie offers that ability and has the added bonus of adding size to the team.

22. Boston Celtics (From LAC)- Jeff Taylor- SF- Vanderbilt

- Taylor is a nice safe 2nd pick here for the Celtics. If things start collapsing and they go into rebuild mode he’s advanced enough to project as a solid starter. While if they try for one more run, he can be a nice bench addition. He doesn’t have as much potential as some other guys available, but those are long term options, where as Boston is likely looking for more immediate results.

23. Atlanta Hawks: Fab Melo- PG- Syracuse

- The Hawks could use some big man depth here. Melo doesn’t offer much offensive ability, but could be a nice number 2 center for defensive purposes.

24. Cleveland Cavaliers (From LAL): Doron Lamb- SG- Kentucky

- Cavs add another wing here who can develop with Irving. Lamb should develop into a solid starter, who is more advanced on the offensive end.

25. Memphis Grizzlies: Tony Wroten Jr- PG- Washington

- The Grizzlies are a deep team and could look to deal this pick for a future selection. If they keep the pick I think they will just look to take the best player available and use him as a potential trade chip.

26. Indiana Pacers: Moe Harkless- SF- Temple

- The Pacers could use another wing player for depth, and a bench role. Harkless has nice upside and is a solid effort guy.

27. Miami Heat: Royce White- PF- Iowa St.

- White has big time potential but is considered somewhat of a risky pick. The Heat would get a player with some nice upside who should fall in line behind the stars on this team.

28. Oklahoma City Thunder- Evan Fournier- SG- France

- The Thunder have no real need here and will probably look to stash a player in Europe. Fournier looks to be the top Euro talent and would be the smart pick here.

29. Chicago Bulls: William Buford- SG- Ohio St.

The Bulls don’t have any glaring needs, and should look at a smart safe pick like Buford. He should be a nice role/bench player for them and contribute quality minutes.

30. Golden State Warriors (From SAS)- Draymond Green- Forward- Michigan State

- The Warriors could continue to use more size.

2012 NBA Mock Draft: Round 1, 5/22

12:52 am in Uncategorized by Steve Shoup

Picks: 1-1516-30NBA Draft Blog

1. Charlotte Bobcats- Anthony Davis- PF- Kentucky

- Davis is clearly the top prospect in this draft and has the ability to make an instant impact for the Bobcats.

2. Washington Wizards- Thomas Robinson-PF- Kansas

- The Wizards most important thing is to come out of this draft with another impact player. Unfortunately after Davis there is a ton of potential, but a lot of uncertainty. I think its going to come down to Thomas Robinson, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist and Bradley Beal. While Kidd-Gilchrist and Beal might have more scoring potential, Robinson might be a better fit as he can work in as both a 3 and a 4, adding athleticism and toughness inside.

3. Cleveland Cavaliers- Michael Kidd-Gilchrist- SF- Kentucky

- The Cavaliers could use an athletic wing player to work inside, which is exactly what Kidd-Gilchrist gives them.

4. New Orleans Hornets- Bradley Beal- SG- Florida

- The Hornets are officially in a rebuilding faze and should take the best available player, which at this point is Beal. Beal isn’t a point guard, but until they find a better option the Hornets could run their offense through him.

5. Sacramento Kings- Harrison Barnes- SF- UNC

- Barnes can score at the next level and is a nice top 5 or top 8 pick, especially for a team like the Kings that could use a SF. Barnes is going to be a little rough around the edges and probably be a bit more of a slow starter, but is a nice pick here.

6. Portland Trailblazers (From NJ)- Andre Drummond- C- UCONN

- The Trailblazers struck out the last time they went for an impact center, but they can’t be afraid to go down that road again. Drummond comes with his share of risks, but they need a big man.

7. Golden State Warriors- Perry Jones- PF- Baylor-

- Jones has big time upside and the size and athletic ability the Warriors always seem to covet. He’s a bit of a feast or famine prospect, but I like his chances at the next level.

8. Toronto Raptors- Damian Lillard- PG- Weber State

-The top point guard prospect in the draft (though that isn’t saying much), Lillard has a real chance of cracking the top 10. I don’t know if he’ll ever being an elite point guard, but he should be a quality starter, and even put up good minutes as a rookie.

9. Detroit Pistons- Jarred Sullinger- PF- Ohio State

- The Pistons need to add a frontcourt mate for center Greg Monroe and Sullinger would be the top guy on the board. Adding Sullinger’s power to Monroe’s game could really make the Pistons tough inside.

10. New Orleans Hornets- Dion Waiters- PG- Syracuse

- The Hornets need to attempt to replace Chris Paul in this draft and while Waiters is a bit of a reach he’s got a real shot of being at least a decent starting PG.

11. Portland Trailblazers- Jeremy Lamb- SG- UCONN

- After filling their center void the Trailblazers need to replace another former top prospect who’s career was derailed by injuries (Brandon Roy). Lamb gives them that guy and prospect who could really end up a star down the road.

12. Milwaukee Bucks- Tyler Zeller- C- UNC

- The Bucks need to find a center and Zeller would be a great pick up here in the middle of the round. He’ll never be a star, but he’ll give good minutes and solid production.

13. Phoenix Suns: Kendall Marshall- PG- UNC

- Marshall has some real upside and could be viewed as the longterm replacement for Steve Nash. He’s a pretty unselfish player who knows how to get his scorers the ball.

14. Houston Rockets- Meyers Leonard- C- Illinois

- The Rockets are desperate for some young center talent and Leonard is the top guy on the board. He might need a year to really contribute, but this is a great future pick.

15. Philadelphia 76ers- John Henson- PF- UNC

- Henson isn’t a dynamic scorer, but that’s okay as the 76ers back court handles most of those duties. What Henson offers is length, potential and basketball smarts, three things Philadelphia needs to add to their squad.

2012 NBA Mock Draft (Howard) Picks 16-30

7:51 am in Uncategorized by Steve Shoup

Picks: 1-1516-30Steveo’s MockNBA Draft Blog

Pick 16) Houston Rockets (from New York): Quincey Miller 6’9” 210 SF Baylor Senior

10.6 points, 4.9 Rebounds, 1.4 assists

Could be considered a little bit of a reach here but I love what Miller brings to a team. Would come in and help out that front court.

Pick 17) Dallas Mavericks: Terrence Ross 6’6” 197 SG Washington Sophomore

15.3 points, 6.5 rebound, 1.4 assists

On any given night this guy can go off, he is a great shooter. The Mavericks need to get younger at guard and Ross fits right in. Jason Terry and Jason Kidd won’t be there forever and he can come in and play with them or replace them.

Pick 18) Minnesota Timberwolves (from Utah Jazz): Austin Rivers 6’4” 203 SG Duke Freshman

15.4 points, 3.4 rebounds, 2.1 assists

Austin Rivers would be a great pick here for the Timberwolves and he could get a lot of open looks from Ricky Rubio. They could be a great back court for years to come and resulting in many assists for Rubio and points for Rivers. He would also help to replace the scoring they would lose if Michael Beasley leaves.

Pick 19) Orlando Magic: Marquis Teague 6’2” 189 PG Kentucky Freshman

9.4 points, 4.8 assists, 2.5 rebounds

Jameer Nelson may leave and the Magic need to put as much talent around Dwight Howard if they want him to stay. I would not be surprised if they got another big man here just in case they move Howard. If that is the case I think they go Fab Melo.

Pick 20) Denver Nuggets: Dion Waiters 6’4” 215 SG Syracuse Sophomore

12.6 points, 2.3 rebounds, 2.6 assists

Nuggets are a very unselfish team and lack someone who can completely take over a game. Waiters will at least come in and help with some scoring.

Pick 21) Boston Celtics: Royce White 6’8” 249 SF Iowa St. Sophomore

13.1 points, 9.2 rebounds, 5.1 assists

Great athletic player who can play SF and PF but has many scouts concerned with his anxiety disorder. If he can handle everything he will be a great pick here, especially since the Celtics need to get younger.

Pick 22) Boston Celtics (from LA Clippers): Doron Lamb 6’4” 200 SG Kentucky Sophomore

13.2 points, 2.9 rebounds, 1.6 assists

Doron Lamb is a great shooter and comes up in the big game and is exactly what the Celtics will need if they lose Ray Allen. His great play in Kentucky’s championship run really helped him and he is use to playing with stars which will help at the next level.

Pick 23) Atlanta Hawks: Tyler Zeller 6’11” 240 PF UNC Senior

16.5 points, 9.3 rebounds, 1.0 assists

I finally have Zeller getting picked here after dropping. If Zeller is already taken (which he probably will) then I have them going with Fab Melo.

Pick 24) Cleveland Cavaliers (from the LA Lakers): Fab Melo 7’ 255 C Syracuse Sophomore

7.8 points, 5.8 rebounds, 2.9 blocks

Fab Melo should be able to come in immediately and help the Cavs get stronger on defense. They also need to add more big men so this makes sense.

Pick 25) Memphis Grizzlies: Tony Wroten Washington 6’5” 204 PG/SG Washington Freshman

16.7 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.6 assists

I like this pick because I expect guard OJ Mayo to leave in free agency and he should be a good replacement. I could also see Moe Harkless going here.

Pick 26) Indiana Pacers: Moe Harkless 6’8” 218 SF/PF St. John’s Freshman

15.3 points, 8.6 rebounds, 1.4 blocks, 1.4 assists

I got to see a good amount of Harkless this year watching the Big East and I think he would be a great pick here. He kind of reminds me of Rudy Gay a little bit and I think he could come in and play well with Danny Granger on the wing, especially if David West decides to leave in free agency. He will definitely help their bench and could potentially become a starter.

Pick 27) Miami Heat: John Jenkins 6’4” 205 SG Vanderbilt Junior

19.9 points, 2.8 rebounds, 1.1 assists

Miami doesn’t really have a big need but I think this would be a good pick. They could also go Jeff Taylor or Draymond Green here too.

Pick 28) Oklahoma City Thunder: Jeff Taylor 6’7” 226 SF Vanderbilt Senior

16.4 points, 5.8 rebounds, 1.8 assists

OKC is another team that doesn’t really have any needs but Taylor will be a guy to come in and help with depth. Another potential pick here is Festus Ezeli.

Pick 29) Chicago Bulls: Draymond Green 6’6” 235 SF/PF Michigan St. Senior

16.1 points, 10.4 rebounds, 3.6 assists

Great team leader and player and will be a great fit with this group of players the Bulls have.

Pick 30) Golden State Warriors (from San Antonio): Andrew Nicholson 6’9” 220 PF St. Bonaventure Senior

18.4 points, 8.5 rebounds, 1 assist

I am not sure if Nicholson drops this far but I am sure the Warriors would be happy to have him. If he is not here I think they go Quincy Miller or Festus Ezeli.

2012 NBA Mock Draft (Howard) 5/16

12:31 am in Uncategorized by howardticker24

Picks: 1-15, 16-30, Steveo’s Mock, NBA Draft Blog

Note:  Lottery has not happened yet so order is projected on record

Pick 1) Charlotte Bobcats: Anthony Davis 6’10” 220 PF/C Kentucky Freshman

14.3 points, 10.0 rebounds, 4.7 Blocks

No brainer pick at number one. Great defensive presence and should help this team pick up some more wins next year.

Pick 2) Washington Wizards: Thomas Robinson 6’8” 240 PF Kansas Junior

17.9 points, 11.8 rebounds, 1.9 assists

Thomas Robinson would be a great pick here for the Wizards to team him up in the front court with relatively new Wizard Nene. Robinson has great athleticism and strength and his amazing season and great tournament run really helped him move up draft boards. Gilchrist would also be a good pick here as well.

Pick 3) Cleveland Cavaliers: Bradley Beal 6’4” 207 SG Florida Freshman

14.6 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.2 assists

Would be a solid fit for this team, but if they go big man I see them picking Drummond. Cavaliers are a talented young team and only a few players away from being a late seed playoff team in the Eastern Conference. The reason why I don’t have them going Gilchrist here is because they drafted Tristan Thompson early last year.

Pick 4) New Orleans Hornets: Michael Kidd-Gilchrist 6’7” 210 SF Kentucky Freshman

11.8 points, 7.6 rebounds, 2.0 assists

Michael Kidd-Gilchrist is one of my favorite players in this draft and the Hornets would be lucky if he gets past pick 2 or 3. He is a guy that would fit right in on almost any team.

Pick 5) Sacramento Kings: Andre Drummond 6’10” 270 PF UConn Freshman

10.2 points, 7.7 rebounds, 2/7 blocks

Drummond didn’t really live up to the hype in his freshman year but he has a lot of potential. I think a Drummond and Cousins combo would be dominant. Keep in mind Cousins asked for a trade so Drummond could also serve as his replacement

Pick 6) Portland Trail Blazers (from New Jersey): Jared Sullinger 6’9” 265 PF Ohio State Sophomore

17.6 points, 9.3 rebounds

Sullinger would have been a clear top 5 pick last year, could drop further this year but I love his post game and think he would be a great player for the Trail Blazers.

Pick 7) Golden State Warriors (could go to the Utah Jazz): Harrison Barnes 6’8” 215 SF UNC Sophomore

17.4 points, 5.2 rebounds, 1 assist

Barnes is too good to pass up here. I love his offensive game but want to see him be more clutch in the big game. He is another guy with a whole lot of potential.

Pick 8) Toronto Raptors: Damian Lillard 6’2” 190 PG Weber State Junior

24.5 points, 5.1 rebounds, 4.0 assists

Lillard is great athletic point guard who can shoot. Kind of reminds me of a Russell Westbrook. Toronto would love him here to replace Jose Calderon or team up with him in the back court since Calderon is a more true point guard.

Pick 9) Detroit Pistons: Perry Jones III 6’11” 235 SF Baylor Sophomore

14.0 points, 7.7 rebounds, 1.3 assists

I liked him better last year but I still think he has a lot of potential. Jones is another guy who can disappear in the big game. Detroit has some nice young pieces so Jones would help.

Pick 10) New Orleans Hornets (from Minnesota): Kendall Marshall 6’4” 197 PG UNC Freshman

7.8 points, 2.6 rebounds, 9.7 assists

This could be an awesome pick because it could form a young trio of Eric Gordon, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, and Kendall Marshall which could quickly get a lot of attention in the league. That is a point guard (Marshall), shooting guard (Gordon), and small forward (Gilchrist) trio I would not want to face.

Pick 11) Portland Trail Blazers: Jeremy Lamb 6’5” 185 SG UConn Sophomore

17.7 points, 4.9 rebounds, 1.8 assists

Lamb is great at creating his own shot and will immediately come in as one of their leading scorers. He will also help the fans in Portland to forget about Brandon Roy.

Pick 12) Milwaukee Bucks: John Henson 6’10” 220 PF UNC Junior

13.8 points, 10.1 rebound, 2.9 blocks

Henson is a great defender but needs to put on some muscle. Could be a great player in this league in a few years and will play well off of Brandon Jennings.

Pick 13) Phoenix Suns: Terrence Jones 6’9” 244 SF Kentucky Sophomore

12.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, 1.8 blocks

If he was more consistent he would be a higher pick but Jones still has a lot of potential. He is also very unselfish and good at playing with others.

Pick 14) Houston Rockets: Arnett Moultrie 6’10” 230 PF Mississippi St. Junior

15.8 points, 10.6 rebounds, 1.1 assists

I kept going back and forth between Moultrie and Tyler Zeller here. I like Moultrie a lot and will come in and really help their front court.

Pick 15) Philadelphia 76ers: Meyers Leonard 7’ 245 C Illinois Sophomore

13.6 points, 8.2 rebounds, 1.9 blocks

The Sixer’s can use another big man but he will take a few years to get in his zone. If they go guard I see them going with Terrence Ross.

2012 NBA Mock Draft (Steveo): Picks 17-32, 5/15

- The Nuggets could look for a big man here, and Moultrie is the top guy on the board. He offers power and size, and could be a nice complementary player next year.

21. Boston Celtics: Terrence Ross- SG- Washington

- The Celtics should look to get younger and take someone who can play right away. Ross can be a nice bench player next year and take over a starting role by 2013.

24. Cleveland Cavaliers (From LAL): Doron Lamb- SG- Kentucky

- After adding one wing to their team with their first pick, the Cavs come back and add another scorer here. Lamb has really nice potential and could be a good back court mate with Irving.

25. Memphis Grizzlies: Royce White- PF- Iowa St.

- The Grizzlies are a deep team and could look to deal this pick for a future selection. If they keep the pick I think they will just look to take the best player available and use him as a potential trade chip. White offers some size and potential here.

27. Miami Heat: Tony Wroten Jr- PG- Washington

- Wroten has solid potential and could develop into a starter down the road. Obviously the Heat don’t need a star here, but just a solid contributor here.

30. Golden State Warriors (From SAS)- Draymond Green- Forward- Michigan State

- The Warriors could continue to use more size.
