@garneyloom did you see that ESPN has Oregon as the 4th rated team going into the summer http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/7938511/college-football-way-too-early-2012-top-25

@garneyloom congrats on the Rose bowl trip, Should be a good game against Wisconsin
Thanks! It should be a good game and an interesting one. Completely different styles of play…kind of reminds me of the Rose Bowl two years ago, only let’s hope there are different results for us! I think we can win if we just remember what we’ve learned and take it to them like we took it to Stanford (which also claims to play smashmouth defense).

@garneyloom good luck with the Civil War game and locking up the Pac-12 Championship spot
Thanks! Can’t wait until Friday! It’ll be a fun game – I’m glad it’s UCLA because we haven’t played them yet, meaning they haven’t seen us either and they haven’t had time to prepare for us. Here’s hoping for some roses (at which point I might post that video Return of the Quack with Joey Harrington).
haha i just looked up the video again I couldn’t wait. Now the Ducks obviously shouldn’t get overconfident, but I think it’s alright for their fans too. They better beat UCLA is all i have to say!
The video is amazing…priceless. I haven’t watched the original recently because it has too many Masoli references, but maybe I’ll rewatch that again soon. The game will be fun. I say we score 50.

@garneyloom Oregon got some help last night with OK State losing, now they need to take care of business tonight!
Yep! I can’t wait to impress!
Good luck tonight!
Thanks!
should be a good game, I think they will be fine though!
Sorry about outcome Andrea! They still had great season and I’m sure can get a great bowl game which always helps for further recruiting, etc!
Thanks. We’ll still go to the Rose Bowl, but we should have won that game. I don’t know where we were the first three quarters.
Yeah that was sad. I even know USC fans who were hoping Oregon would win so they can rep the conference in the PAC 12
Yeah. Some LSU fans showed up at Summers to cheer on the Ducks because they said they’d rather play us than Alabama. Today I went to dinner with some of my Duck friends and it was sad all around. The worst part is, we know we can play better. If we played the whole game the way we played in the fourth quarter, we’d have beaten them like we beat Stanford.
no that really is unfortunate. I agree, and I’d say if they play that game 10 times Oregon probably wins 7 of them, its just sad that yesterday wasn’t one of those times.
So frustrating…because steve is right about the 7 of 10 atleast!! Nice you had good support as Summers!
Hope they can really represent in Rose Bowl!

@garneyloom So is this Saturday against USC? I’d love to watch that game because Barkley could be our next Redskins QB! Good luck tomorrow!!
It is! Some say USC will be a more challenging team for us to face than Stanford because they have more speed. I think they’d definitely be ranked in the top 15 if they were eligible to be in the BCS rankings (they are woefully under ranked at 18th in the AP). Barkley is good, but I don’t know – he did some trash talking already this week, saying Oregon is not as good this year as last year. That might be true but he’s just adding fuel to our fire!
Yes, not good to give you all bulletin board material!! Should be exciting!

@garneyloom the Ducks seem to be in a really good spot for a NC game. LSU still has Arkansas and the SEC Champ game, Alabama has pretty much zero shot since they can’t overtake LSU for the SEC Champ game. Oklahoma St. still has Oklahoma, and I don’t see Clemson or Va Tech getting in even with winning the ACC Champ game. Ducks need to care of USC and I like their chances (with a little help obviously)
I’m glad you’re optimistic! I’m worried about Alabama…is there any reason people wouldn’t vote in an LSU-Alabama rematch? The BCS Countdown show seemed to think it was inevitable if Oklahoma State falls. Personally I think we COULD beat LSU if we played them again now. I’d love that rematch!
They are a bit of an concern, but I think there will be a push to make it more than a regional game. Like it would be with an LSU vs Bama rematch. The Pac 12 championship game is a big help for Oregon as well.

@garneyloom Fantastic win last night, to quote one ESPN writer, ”The Ducks basically put the Tree in the woodchipper”. Their national title hpes are still very much alive!
Thanks! I had no doubt but was pretty amazed at how much we won by and how well we handled them! Luck just didn’t look like himself. And LaMike very much looked like himself. Awesome.
yeah i think the defense was really impressive, that wasn’t an easy match-up and they answered the call
Yep! I was impressed too.

@garneyloom So have you watched most the Oregon games at Summers this season?
Must be getting excited for Saturday!I have watched the majority at one of the Duck bars…went to the new DC alumni bar (Irish Channel) three times, although I really like Summer’s better. We are all super pumped for Saturday! LSU-Alabama might get top billing but this is our big rivalry game. There’s no love lost between UW and UO!
it should be a good game, but I think Oregon will be fine
Yep! We were even a little shaky but still fine. Can’t wait for Stanford!
i didn’t get to watch the game yesterday. What looked good for Oregon and what do they need to clean up for Stanford?
The first half of the game, Darron Thomas was still off. He didn’t look too sharp, although we were ahead at the half. This was mostly thanks to two picks by safety Eddie Pleasant that gave us short fields for easy touchdowns. After halftime, we clicked into gear. LaMichael James looked good throughout the game, so that was great.
Coach Kelly said that the main problem was not feeling in sync in the first half because we only had a time of possession of six minutes all half! It’s not unusual for us to win with a lower time of possession, but it’s true that the offense barely had the ball last game. I think against Stanford we need to be able to click into gear earlier. Clean up sloppy throws (and missed catches), establish some good runs to get us comfortable, do what we can to get the offense flowing so that bigger plays can happen. The defense looked decent – they just need to keep making their tackles.
well that is good that the defense is coming up with some big plays. They will need that this week. I can’t wait till sat.’s game it should be a great game.
Yep! I can’t wait either! Most of my friends at the Duck bars are either at the game or out of town, but I have a new roommate whom I went to college with so we’ll find a prime spot (probably at the Arlington bar, but who knows). I wouldn’t miss a minute of action!!!
I’ll be away but hope to watch some of the game sat…that will be amazing! Have fun @ Summers!
Thanks! It will be fun no matter where you are watching, unless you’re a Stanford fan.
haha,
I’ll be rooting for Oregon, but i will say I think Stanford wins this since they are at home. If the Ducks can pull off though it will be something special.
Get ready for the upset! You heard it here on Fanspeak first!
haha i hope so!
That’s cool there’s a Duck bar in DC at Irish Channel to! Enjoy the rivalry game tonight & good luck!
Thanks! Decent night for the Ducks. Next week will be tough!

@garneyloom nice win by Oregon! Did Thomas get hurt again I saw Bennett in there?
Yes, congrats!
And that USC vs. Stanford game was amazing to watch! Did you see it? It will be an interesting race for Pac 12 title!!I heard many great things about the USC-Stanford game! I didn’t get to see it but I did watch highlights. Oregon didn’t have a great day yesterday but we’re allowed that against mediocre teams. We have to be sharper for UW and the sharpest for Stanford and USC! I do think, though, that the USC-Stanford game last night showed that Stanford is fallible. They can lose to a good team. I hope we’re that time!
yeah USC exposed some weaknesses, particularly in their run defense, which should have James and company chomping at that bit.
Thanks! I don’t think Thomas was hurt again. He might still be hurting a little from the previous injury, but it looked like he was just rusty. He wasn’t on target with his receivers and the running game wasn’t great in the first half. I don’t know if they pulled him because of the rust or because they’d already decided not to give him too much playing time in that game. My guess is he starts at Washington and we see how he does. Bennett looked great again so I have confidence in him at Washington too. I think Thomas will need to be sharp at Stanford, though, if we’re going to pull out the W!
interesting, yeah i wonder what the reason was I didn’t get to see the game but I did see that Thomas’s numbers weren’t too sharp, hopefully he gets back on track soon.

@garneyloom nice win by Oregon Sat. night. AZ St. played them well, but it was nice to see Oregon rise to the challenge
Thanks! It made me feel good to know what a solid team we have all around. No LaMichael James? No Darron Thomas? No worries! Great second half with a backup QB and our deep core of running backs.
exactly, its not easy to win in the face of adversity like that, but the Ducks did well
i forget who are your next couple of games?
Colorado and Washington State. Even though we’ll be easy favorites in both, we shouldn’t overlook either team, especially Washington State – they are finally starting to win games again. It would be particularly dangerous to overlook them because we have big games coming up after – at Washington (presently #25 in the BCS) and at Stanford!
yeah your right they can’t look too far in advance. That Stanford game is great, but the Ducks need to stay unbeaten in the conference.

@garneyloom – I was watching part of Oregon game tonight, and I must say their uniforms are pretty cool! You can hardly read the players name on back….but it still so unique and they have so many of them. Do you have a favorite?
Hope you guys pull out the win tonight!! Good luck! Thanks for the uniform compliment! I really liked what we wore at the LSU game, but last night’s jersey’s were good. I do agree that it is tough to read the names. Generally their dark uniforms are my favorites.
And it was a great game to boot!
Congrats on the win! I like their helmets too…very cool! Good luck as the Pac 12 race heats up!
Thanks! The conference race is certainly heating up – the Washington-Stanford game next week is the one to watch!!!
yeah that should be a really good game. Washington’s defense is pretty good, and will probably be the toughest defense that Luck has faced this year (I still like Stanford in the game though).
(Well, besides the Oregon game, which is always the one to watch!
)haha

@garneyloom what have you heard about how long James is supposed to be out?
He didn’t practice with the team yesterday and is almost certainly out for this week. He told people that he feels pretty good, though most sources expect him to be out ”a few weeks.” I might expect them to be cautious and sit him out most or all of the game against Colorado, as they’re not a big threat. Maybe put him back in at Washington State?
At the least, I expect him to return by Stanford, but I think we’d all love to see him back by the UW game. But only if he’s 100%!!!
that will be good if he is back for the Stanford game. It sucks though that any missed time hurts his Heisman chances
Yeah. I found it kind of ridiculous that he wasn’t getting serious looks until this last game – how many 200+ rushing yard games does someone have to have?
We’ll see how long he’s gone.

@garneyloom excited for the game tonight? I know they are favored big, hopefully the Ducks are ready to go after their bye week!
I’m very excited! I realize we are ridiculous favorites, but see our game against Cal last year and it’s clear that no Pac-12 game is easy. I think we win by two touchdowns. Let’s hope so!
agreed…Cal almost kept them from going to the National Title game last year, and would love to play spoiler again.

@garneyloom – Hope your Ducks can take care of Arizona today! Good luck!
Thanks! They got the job done, but I’d like to see a more solid defense in future games.
What a game by James though
Oh yeah. I really hope he’s back in the Heisman talk!!! At one point they flashed a statistic on screen that James had something like 260 rushing yards and Arizona (at that point) only had 14 total – as a TEAM! Hahaha!
If Oregon can win the Pac-12 then I think he has a real shot. He’ll need to have a couple big games against like Stanford and USC, but it is doable. I also like that they are throwing to him more, which can help his Heisman case. He is pretty well on pace for about 2,000 combined yards and if he is over that mark, I like his chances.

I hadn’t seen that yet! 4th…whew. I don’t always like huge expectations early, but I think we’re getting used to them
I really hope we don’t drop any of the easy early games. If we can make it through and give our new QB (my money is on Bennett still) some time to get his legs, I really do have high hopes.
yeah the QB battle should be interesting. I’m guessing Bennett wins it to start the year but I’ve heard a lot of good things on Mariota so I think he’ll get some chances during the season.
