I think the Nationals will definitely be making a push for another starting pitcher. I feel they are likely to land one. They have the money to spend. Their payroll should stand around 62-68 million for next year. I think their biggest offseason concern should be extending Ryan Zimmerman’s contract. After that, I feel another quality starter. Then perhaps a center fielder if they can work out a deal. Personally i’d like to see them sign Cody Ross who is a free agent. He would be a perfect stopgap measure. Next years free agent class of center fielders is much better. Big marquise names are available next offseason. I think they should wait till then to address that issue. As for starting pitching, i’m sure they’ll resign Wang, and make a big push for CJ Wilson. Personally, i’d like to see them pursue Roy Oswalt

Looking for a Quarterback in the draft? What are your thoughts of who will be taken? And most seem to think the Redskins will be drafting a new signal caller, who do you think it should be? Check out my breakdown here, see if you agree. http://mdsportsvoice.blogspot.com/2011/11/nfl-drafttalk-qb.html

@meg08 Thanks for reading my post. And yes, I think most ’Skins fans are on the same page about their needs. And to answer your question, while i’d love a QB like Luck or Matt Barkley, I think Robert Griffin out of Baylor will be Washington’s best option. He might need a fair amount of coaching, but he’s got alot of the physical tools to be great. And good decision making to boot. If Matt Barkley is available then he would be my pick. But I don’t see him or Andrew Luck falling to Washington. If the Skins had an established starter then maybe Nick Foles. But i think he’s about 2 years in pro ball away from being a good starter. If Robert Griffin declares for the draft, I’d say Washington targets him.
I like Barkley & Landry Jones but don’t think they fall to us (though who knows where we’ll finish!) But one of them do….take them!
I like and am intrigued with Griffin…but I’m rooting they take Ryan Tannehill from Texas A&M! I’ve watched a few of his games this season and I’m very impressed.
He reminds me of Aaron Rodgers…athletic, mobile, smart and accurate. All things Redskins need! I’m really rooting for him to be our QB of the future!

The Redskins have so many needs. What is their biggest? How should they approach next years draft? Is this a fading franchise or one on the rise? Let me know what you think. My detailed opinion at http://www.mdsportsvoice.blogspot.com. Visit, voice your opinion, tell me how you feel.
good post! I agree with just about all you said.
Enjoyed the post too….agree I think McIntosh needs to go but the rest must be resigned.
I’m with steve on Torain..not a fan and think bring back Hightower with Helu and add another RB thru Free agency.
But THE FOCUS HAS to be finding franchise QB in 1st round (and not missing this time) and rebuilding offensive line thru draft …like atleast 4 offensive lineman and 2-3 in early rounds!
Looks like we’re basically all on same page!Which QB are you most interested in draft Jeff (besides Andrew Luck obviously)?

Poor Texas. They can’t catch a break in the World Series. Seeing as they were once the Senators, it makes me nervous that this is as close to a World Series title as a Washington franchise might ever be. I’m hoping that the Nationals win a championship before the Rangers. That would be poetic justice.

-Megan Hey thanks!! I just got it off the ground this past week. I used to write for a school athletics blog when I was at University of Maryland. I liked it so much I figured I’d give it a shot at the pro aspect of the game. Wanna try to keep most of my [...]

I’m not so sure. I think that their current trio of running backs is not bad. Torrain’s big knock is that he seems very prone to being hurt. Hightower isn’t exceptional, but I see him as a down-hill runner who seems to get positive yards. And he seems pretty good in passing situations. Looks good [...]

Great breakdown of the prospects!
I think Luck is definitely gone and out of the question no matter where we finish (though I wish we could have him)! I would love Barkley or Jones but I honestly think they’ll be gone in top 5. If one of Barkley or Jones fell to Redskins, I’d be happy/estatic with either!
I don’t know if RG3 is even going to be in this years’ draft but he’s intriguing!
But we know Ryan Tannehill is…so he is who I think is most realistic for the Redskins to pick and I really think he’s a winner/leader and smart, athletic and talented! So he’s my vote for Redskins QB of future! And who I think is most likely we’ll get!
Don’t draft a QB – sign free agent Matt Flynn, the Green Bay back-up. He would hit the ground running much more so than any rookie.
But does he have the ceiling that some of these prospects in the draft have!
I want a high, vaulted, huge ceiling!
