With yesterday’s 11-3 loss the Nationals are now just 2-5 in their last 7 games, and have been outscored 32-28. While normally that run differential wouldn’t be too bad, but the Nationals scored 17 of those runs in one game and only gave up 5. That single game had a 12 run differential, and if you take that out the Nationals would have been outscored 27-11 in the last week.
For the season the Nationals -17 run differential doesn’t appear too bad, but it is 7th worst in baseball, as are their 181 total runs (they are tied for 7th but have a couple extra games than the Orioles). What might be most troubling is the fact that their .447 winning % is 6th worst in baseball, and behind teams like the Orioles, Pirates and Mets.
Given how strong the Nats pitching has been (last night being an exception) they need to work on improving their offense before it is too late.
