Are the Nats Starting to Come Around Offensively? (4 posts)

We’ll see if today was a fluke – but you gotta love the crooked numbers that the Nats put up in both games today (thanks in large part to Espinosa). The starting pitching continues to be very solid. If they are starting to come out of their offensive funk, they could be very fun to watch. Hoping that Zim stays hot when he returns and Werth gets untracked soon.

I thought it was very promising, esp. for guys like Desmond and Morse, and LaRoche. Hairston, Ankiel and Pudge hitting some I think is more a return to the expected rather then them really becoming a part of this offense.

I also got to say that when you think that the starters and bullpen gave up just 3 runs, if you don’t count Gaudin I’d say that is pretty impressive.

The defense also impressed me as they didn’t commit any errors and I thought LaRoche made some great plays at 1B.

They are coming together and if Zim and Werth can really get going, plus the bullpen improves slightly, they really could be competitive.

Sounds like they finally have a team to build around and don’t have to keep sending guys back & forth from minors.

While it doesn’t relate to the offense, I gotta say that the pitching has been a pleasant surprise. Only team in the majors where the starters in every game this year have gone at least 5 innings! The bullpen has been pretty solid for the most part. I like the fact that Balester has been brought up. If they activate HRod soon (and he shows some command of his pitches) there will be a ton of power arms in the bullpen giving Riggleman plenty of flexibility so that he doesn’t have to overuse anyone.
