Preparing for REDSKINS DYNASTY!

Public Group active 1 week, 1 day ago

For any true Redskins fan! Comment or start forum posts about the Redskins here!

I smell DYNASTY for the 2010s! Why?

-Fired the team tumor that was Vinny Cerrato.
-Hired a legitimate and ACTUAL GENERAL MANAGER in Bruce Allen (the history and nostalgia doesn’t hurt there either)
-Fired Jim Zorn…nice guy but wasn’t doing the job!
-Hired an OFFENSIVE minded head coach with Super Bowl rings in Mike Shanahan.
-Hired an agressive defensive coordinator in Jim Haslett.
-Hopefully make impressive moves in free agency and offseason and we’ll be in business!

Who believes the same?!

If Pitt’s RB Ray Graham comes out this year, DRAFT HIM. I don’t care that you just drafted Helu, this kid can play, and the last thing the Skins need is for the Eagles to draft him as well.

I’m gonna be the contrarian on this one buddy. We all see how effective Dion Lewis has been this year… and how much he has impressed coaches… and all the media clamoring for him to get more touches on gameday… what’s that? we haven’t? Oh… then in that case, I’ll point out how pedestrian the Big East is and how easy it is to put up big numbers here. UCONN’s Donald Brown can attest to this. I think you meant to write WR Alshon Jeffrey in that post followed up by “just drafted Leonard Hankerson”… so I’ll let it slide.

haha Dion Lewis was awesome in preseason, and very quickly could be eating into Ronnie Brown’s carries (esp. if Brown keeps throwing the ball away like he is playing hot potato). Lewis might never be a true star, but I could see him in a Sproles like role. Graham’s size is a lot closer to LeSean McCoy, and remember how so many people said that Knowshon Moreno was better than McCoy b/c he was ‘faster…aka gets better track times’ and b/c he played in the SEC.

The fact that Graham plays in the Big East could be a benefit, b/c he will get overlooked somewhat and if he does come out this year I could see him sliding to round 3 or 4.

I love Graham! But where you and I disagree is…I’m fine NOT drafting any widereceivers, runningbacks, tightends this draft at all. Why? Because I’d RATHER trade up to get a higher percentage chance (also quicker developing) for a franchise Quarterback!! Then the rest of the resources can go to offensive line, defensive line, inside linebacker and secondary.

I think a lot of Redskins Nation would agree with me here! Our biggest needs are Offensive line, QB, and some quality depth on defense. I’m VERY happy with our runningbacks right now….did you see that 1, 2, 3 combo in St. Louis?! Love it!

Well stated Megan. I’m not advocating passing up a QB, or ignoring the need to get young at ILB in the near future. With Jarvis Jenkins coming back next year though… I doubt there will be much focus put into the D-Line come the draft. My point was geared only toward pointing out that if there will be an offensive addition to our roster, I’d prefer a BIG receiver.

I believe there is good depth in this year’s QB class beyond the oft coveted Andrew Luck (who looks as good as many others have coming out of college… but I won’t get into the issue of transition performance). I’d be really happy with a Ryan Tannehill, Kirk Cousins or Brandon Weeden pick supporting a BIG receiver and solid interior lineman coming out of the early rounds. All those guys are in pro style offenses and are at least 6’4″.

The way I look at it, is in the top 5 picks (top 4 rounds) the Redskins need to get at least a QB, OL (preferably OT), and an ILB. The other two picks should be either CB, OL again (this time interior), WR, RB, D-line (Carriker is an FA). Now free agency could clear up some of these needs, but all are important (though some less so).

Again if one of the top QB’s aren’t available at the Skins spot, I’d trade back. Trade back once or twice to the late 20′s early 30′s range and try to land an additional 2nd and 3rd (depending on where you are trading). Take your QB late in round 1, before round 2 can thin the field any more, and just load up on your needs.

Sign Matt Flynn, the backup QB in Green Bay, and then don’t worry about drafting a QB early. He will give you the opportunity to hit the ground running at that position and he has the potential to be the franchise QB. Then spend your early round picks on offensive lineman. I think this year has really shown the need for having good O-line depth – look how many teams are struggling after O-line injuries. The Redskins don’t even have a good starting unit, let alone depth. It’s an area that still needs fixing.

Agreed on offensive line priority for sure! But does Matt Flynn have that much higher of a ceiling than Rex Grossman?

One way or another we’re going to address the QB of the future this offseason! So here is my preferred plans (in order):
-Trade up to draft more of a guarantee in Landry Jones
-Trade for Tim Tebow (they’ve so de-valued him there that he now has to be worth no more than a 4th round). Loss risk/cost but potential high reward…he’s a winner & fighter.
-Take a QB like Nick Foles or Ryan Tannehill in late 1st or early 2nd round and hope they can be it!
    -Sign Matt Flynn

The Tebow or Matt Flynn idea do allow you to take care of offensive line needs & ILB early in draft. And these guys have a 2+ years of NFL experience, so they’ve had the “Aaron Rogers treatment”. But do they have as high a ceiling as the QBs in this draft? That’s the question!

They’ll probably only do one of these options, and then resign Grossman or someone with experience as placeholder or veteran back-up. But that’s my order. One way or another, we need to TRY very hard to get our QB of the future this offseason! I wonder what Bruce Allen and Shanahan & son are cooking up as far as QB goes. You know they already have some strategy!

But I’m not minimizing the priority of offensive line this offseason too! That needs to be the other MAJOR priority!
