Apparently last night Gilbert Arenas had a phantom injury last night http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/10/12/AR2010101206902.html . While I thought the injury could be ‘overstated’ as not to mar the Wizards preseason home opener and the debut of John Wall in front of the home crowd. I never thought that it was Arenas’ call or that he did so to get Nick Young minutes.

Just play basketball Arenas and leave the coaching to Flip. Young is hopefully trade bait this season (as well as Arenas) so it is good to get him some minutes, but lets not act like he has been slighted by the Wizards. He has had plenty of opportunities to show that he belongs in the starting lineup and has always disappointed.

I think the worst part about this is that Arenas feels the need to tell the media how he duped his coach. Why does he feel obligated to announce that his injury was lie? Pretty clear that Arenas loves attention. He probably thought that announcing his consideration for his friend and teammate would cast a positive light on all of this. Wrong. He just looks like a guy that craves the spotlight and is very immature.

Will they be able to trade him this year and get good value back? Seems like they should move in that direction and build around Wall!
