For the Washington Wizards fans that still exist

Ok, it’s pretty tough to appreciate this franchise these days, so I thought I would make a fan group to boost morale (probably won’t happen).

Whom should the Wizards draft with their lottery pick? (5 posts)

Right now we are the fourth worst team in the NBA, obviously things could change and the lottery is a bit unpredictable, but here is how my top 5 would shake out (assuming we don’t have any additional picks, which I hope isn’t the case).

    1. John Wall- no brainer pick here, he could end up being a better point guard than Rose or Paul.
    2. DeMarcus Cousins- I think he can handle the 5 no problem. I love his ball skills and shooting range.
    3. Evan Turner- Love the size and athleticism, but not having a 3-ball scares me a bit.
    4. Wesley Johnson- He is almost as good as Turner with a 3 point shot. His age doesn’t worry me at all, I think he will be an elite NBA player.
    5. Trade back- None of Davis, Aldrich or Aminu impress me enough to take there. Guys like Whiteside, Monroe, Alibi among others are just as good of options. I’m not high on Derrick Favors, he might be an elite player in 2 years, but the Wizards need someone who can play right away. I’d rather have Monroe plus a later 1st round pick than Favors at 5. If the Wizards already have an extra 1st rounder or 2, i’d consider trading the pick for a young player or grab either Davis or Aldrich.

Do we have 5 draft picks and this is who we should take? Or is this the top 5 players in the draft?

Its what I would do if the Wizards end up with the Top pick, 2nd pick, 3rd pick ect.

Wall and Cousins are sure-fire prospect in my opinion. If the Wizards don’t land a top-three pick I’d be happy if they could trade down, which is kinda unorthodox in the NBA, but apparently this draft class is pretty deep with players like artsiom parakhouski projecting to go in the late 1st.

It seems like the Wizards’ roster will be completely depleted if they trade away for cap space, so having multiple late first-round picks might be better than just one lottery pick if it would be spent on a player that no one is thrilled about. The Wizards will be terrible for a number of years, after all, so they’ll have plenty of opportunities to finally win the draft lottery.

I agree I’d love to end up having at least 3 first rounders (with one still in the lottery) maybe even more. And I’d only trade my 2nd round pick if it was to trade up to get a guy you really want. I’m really hoping they clean house and start from scratch. I would look to take the same path as the Timberwolves when they dealt Garnett (though hopefully they can execute the plan better) Jefferson and Love aren’t the best 4-5 combo, but they have a lot of talent and are top commodities. Flynn and Rubio give the T-wolves options in the back court (imagine if they land the top pick this year) they also have some other solid young player and tradeable assets.

The Wizards need to get younger and stockpile draft picks if they have any hope of turning it around. They might not be the most talented team in the NBA for awhile but if they are promising they will still get some fan support.
