I say trade Semin and get a new coach. I also agree with Steve if you trade Semin that may give them a good first round pick too. We can only hope.
I still think they should give Boudreau one more chance…

Steve, George McPhee has done great at either trading for extra picks or making the best of lower-round selections. So I’m not as worried about that. Meg, I think Laich will be back and I agree with you on that. Not sure about Arnott, though. Both, I would LOVE if they traded Semin — even [...]

NOOOOOOO……DON’T BE THINKING THAT WAY, Bruce Boudreau is DEFINITELY not your problem.
You fire him and he will go somewhere else and win a cup, he’s a winner. NOT the problem.The problem is that players aren’t following Boudreau’s system. That’s on the roster — and the reason why it needs an overhaul. The Boston players bought in and the Caps players didn’t. The systems are pretty similar.
So, if it’s the players not the coach then I guess you need to get rid of a lot of players to move foward for the cup. Now if you bring a new coach that has a program that gels with the players would that make things work. It is going to be hard to gel the two together, but they sure have to do something.

I’m sure they will deal a goalie as well, but my guess is it will be for a more proven player. Semin is some what of a salary trade (not that they won’t get value for him, but that moving his salary is a big part of the reasoning)
With the importance of goalies in the NHL, I think it would prove folly if they traded a goalie. Especially when all of them are unproven.

Can we trade Varly too? I think we’re set with Nuevy and Holtby.
I wouldn’t bet on that, goalies traditionally develop late, Montreal traded Tony O. too early, how about Chicago trading Hasek, how about Montreal again thinkg Roy was done (other circumstances for sure but..). There are plenty of examples. The best example/reason to keep goalies, how about the Islanders? Being able to ride the hotter goalie, Billy Smith and Chico Resch provided 4 consecutive Stanley Cups, ensured a fresh goalie for the playoffs. Just saying……….
that’s true, and there is always a risk, but with a salary cap now you have to maximize your assets
But we have 3 great goalies in my mind, so we should move one of them to get something we can use now in return right?

Trade Semin! Get more leaders in the locker room!
I think we need to make sure we keep Brooks Laich and Jason Arnott and they should be the leaders in the locker room for all these young and talented guys!

When someone will stand and take multiple shots to the mug in a playoff game……I don’t want him. I want more Kesler’s, Marchand’s, Bieksa’s, Recchi’s, Bergeron’s and Lucic’s. Chara many will say is European, and he is. But he moved to British Columbia to play in the ”Dub”, the WHL with the Prince George Cougars.
I want character guys, its the hardest trophy in sports to win, takes 16 WINS of intense playoff hockey. Congrats to the Bruins.Caps do need character guys to lead them in the playoffs when they always falter and dissapoint!

without picks in the 2nd and 3rd round they could consider trading back to pick up a couple extra selections. If they stay where they are, they should look at the top wing or center. I also wonder if they will look to trade Semin now, if they can land a good 1st round pick [...]
I think the Caps need more grit, they need the toughest SOB they can find, At 26 they should a shot at someone like Tyler Biggs, Matt Puempel, Scott Mayfield or David Musil. These guys all have talent, but have some edge, Caps need more of it, McPhee has found some skill players, but with that skill comes some softness, and it disappears in May, and the Caps need to see June hockey!

What should the Caps do? Draft is next weekend!

I agree… Brad Marchant and Steve Downie are good examples of players with both skill and grit…
