Fantasy Bust Alert!

Alshon Jeffery

Jeffery exploded in 2013 for over 1400 receiving yards. He is typically being drafted in the third round this year, making him a number one wide receiver. The chances of him repeating his performance from last season are very low. Over half of his touchdowns were thrown to him be Josh McCown who is no longer with the team. If you want a Bears’ wide receiver, Brandon Marshall is the guy to go with.

Le’Veon Bell

Bell missed the first three games of the 2013 season and then went on to post 860 rushing yards, eight touchdowns and another 399 receiving yards. This looks really good on paper. However, when you break down his individual performances, he was no top running back. He only broke 100 rushing yards in a game one time last year. He has been being drafted in the late first round. This is way too high for someone this unproven. He is not necessarily a complete bust, but he will definitely disappoint owners who take them with their first pick. Think of him as 2014’s C.J. Spiller.

Ryan Mathews

Ryan Mathews played a full sixteen games for the first time in his career in 2013. He made those games count rushing for 1255 yards and six touchdowns. However, since this is the only season he has not missed time it is reasonable to think he will not play a full season this year. He is now also sharing his backfield with not only Danny Woodhead, but also Don Brown. The Chargers did not give Brown a multi-million dollar deal to keep the bench warm.

Toby Gerhart has bust written all over him. Do not fall for all the hype.

Toby Gerhart has bust written all over him. Do not fall for all the hype.

Toby Gerhart

For a guy who has never been a starter, Toby Gerhart sure has some huge expectations. There are some people who believe the Jaguars’ new running back will surpass 1200 rushing yards. Gerhart only started one game in 2013 and he ended up fumbling the football. Also keep in mind he is playing for the Jaguars. They do not have the best offensive line and they have an unproven quarterback. Defenses will be squarely focused on the team’s running game.

Antonio Gates

Antonio Gates’ days as the best tight end in fantasy football are long behind him. Last year he caught 77 balls for 872 yard and four touchdowns. That was his best year in a long time. Unfortunately, he only had over 100 receiving yards in a game one time. By the end of 2013, the Chargers were throwing in Ladarius Green more often. The heir apparent to Gates will continue to see more playing time in 2014. Any time a team is rotating tight ends, no tight end on that team has any fantasy value.
