Some Ravens Offensive Players to Watch in their next preseason game

Baltimore Ravens

On Friday night on FOX, the Baltimore Ravens will have their next preseason game against the Detroit Lions. I am going to talk about some offensive players to watch in this game.

1)Bobby Rainey

2)Deonte Thompson

Two guys in particular I will watch are the ones who had the biggest game for the Ravens in game one. That is Running Back Bobby Rainey and Wide Receiver Deonte Thompson. I believe Rainey has a legitimate chance to make this team as a running back and return man if he keeps up the stats he put up last game. Rainey, the undrafted rookie, had 12 carries for 36 yards. He also had 3 catches and 28 yards, 1 of those receptions being a touchdown. In the return game, he returned 6 punts for 50 yards and 1 kick off for 26 yards. He did have a fumble but he can flat out get it done in  all purpose yards. Wide Receiver Deonte Thompson can make the 53 man roster as well as a 4th receiver if he keeps having performances like he did last game with 3 catches for 53 yards including a 22 yard touchdown.

3) Justin Tucker

This young kicker is trying hard to beat out Billy Cundiff. Tucker is an undrafted free agent from Texas who had impressed for the most part so far. Tucker made his only field goal attempt from 36 yards and was 3/3 from extra points.

4)Tommy Streeter

Street is one of a few receivers who can make this team if they play well in the preseason. However he has a lot of competition with Thompson and Laquan Williams who I will get into later. Streeter was a 6th round pick this year that is pretty raw. If he doesn’t make the team, I definitely expect him to be on the practice squad because he is still a developmental project but has potential. He had 2 catches for 12 yards last week.

5)Laquan Williams

Williams is another receiver trying to make this roster, especially as a special team’s guy. He had one catch for 6 yards in the first preseason game.

6) Bernard Pierce:

Remember, Ricky Williams retired. Pierce has an injured hamstring but was the teams 3rd round pick in the 2012 draft and I think he will eventually be the team’s 2nd string running back at the beginning of the season but he needs to get healthy so he can prove it. Pierce now has pressure to perform because of the great game Rainey had and should be even more pressure if Allen plays well on Friday.

7)Anthony Allen

Anthony had 5 rushes for 9 yards last week.  It will be interesting to see what this team will do if Allen plays well along with Rainey and Pierce. Would they hold 4 running backs? Ultimately I think they will have 3 especially if the multiple receivers on this roster play well like they have. I’m excited to see who of this entire group will make the roster. There are still plenty of preseason games left and a lot could happen.

I think when the preseason is over the Ravens will rank their running backs as

1)      Rice

2)      Pierce

3)      Rainey

4)      Allen
